Twilight Romance: Flash Marriage to Mature Tycoon – Episode 53
The toothbrush entered evidence rather than the laboratory. Its genetic material belonged to a living male whose profile appeared in a commercial database. Investigators identified him as a distant cousin of Harry’s late father, paid by Summer’s genealogy company weeks earlier.
The scheme depended on partial family similarity. A rushed test might have suggested a relationship close enough to support more litigation. Summer had not merely invented an heir; she had designed scientific uncertainty.
The supervised retest used fresh samples collected in the courtroom clinic. Harry and the claimant watched every seal applied. Neither spoke about what result he preferred.
Jocelyn waited with Ray in the courthouse garden. She admitted that part of her feared an unexpected truth despite the fraud. Ray said genuine truth could be faced; manufactured uncertainty was what exhausted people.
He understood because his disguise had once made Jocelyn question which parts of their relationship were real. The comparison did not flatter him, but he no longer protected himself from uncomfortable parallels.
The result arrived the following day. Harry and the claimant shared no biological father. The laboratory found no close paternal relationship beyond what might occur among unrelated members of the same regional population.
Harry exhaled, then embraced the man who had briefly believed they were brothers. The gesture surprised everyone. He said neither of them had created the lie, and both deserved to leave it without hatred.
The claimant withdrew every property claim and provided testimony against Summer. His lawyer asked the court to recognize him as a victim of fraudulent recruitment. Jocelyn supported the request.
The judge dissolved the freeze on the community trust. The transfer became final, and the house could never again be sold for private gain. Volunteers applauded outside the courthouse.
Summer faced additional charges for forged records, witness manipulation, and attempted fraud. Her attorney argued she had relied on contractors who exceeded their instructions. The repeated defense no longer sounded credible.
Reporters asked Jocelyn whether she wanted Summer imprisoned. Jocelyn said consequences belonged to courts, not personal revenge. Her priority was restoring the community programs Summer disrupted.
Ray admired her restraint but asked privately whether anger still existed beneath it. Jocelyn said forgiveness and absence of anger were different things. She could refuse revenge while acknowledging harm.
They reopened the trust house with a small ceremony. Harry placed copies of his father’s authentic letters in the archive room under restricted access. The originals returned to Jocelyn’s cedar box.
The claimant attended quietly and donated the false documents to an educational display about identity fraud. Transforming his humiliation into a warning allowed him to leave with some dignity.
Violet arrived from the city carrying books for the counseling room. She joked that every family event now required legal review, security screening, and cornbread. Jocelyn told her only the cornbread was mandatory.
Stacy came with Harry and Caleb under the court monitor’s supervision. She apologized to the community organizer for her family’s role in the break-in. The apology did not restore trust immediately, but it placed responsibility where it belonged.
During lunch, Harry told Jocelyn he had filed for divorce. Counseling had shown him that Stacy’s recent changes did not require him to resume a marriage built on fear. They could learn to co-parent without pretending the past had vanished.
Jocelyn supported the decision because it was his, not because she wanted Stacy punished. Harry appeared sad and certain, a combination she recognized from her own choices.
At sunset, Ray asked when Jocelyn wanted to return to the city. She answered that she would divide her time as planned. The hometown no longer represented escape, and the city no longer represented dependence.
Before they left, police called with news that Summer had vanished while transferring between court and a medical evaluation. Her abandoned vehicle contained one item: a printed invitation to Jocelyn and Ray’s still-unannounced second wedding.
