Twilight Romance: Flash Marriage to Mature Tycoon – Episode 34

Summer’s insult traveled farther than the music. Guests turned toward the entrance, waiting to see whether Jocelyn would retreat or Ray would create a scene. The crossed-out seating card trembled only slightly in Jocelyn’s hand.

Ray asked security who had allowed Summer inside. The event director admitted that a major donor had added her name hours earlier. Summer no longer controlled the trust, but she still possessed friends who enjoyed humiliating outsiders.

Jocelyn stopped Ray from ordering the ballroom cleared. Hundreds of guests had come to support the foundation, not witness their private war. Punishing the event would make Summer’s disruption more powerful.

She turned the card over and wrote her own name on the blank side. Then she handed it to the attendant. “I know who I am,” she said. “Your table arrangement does not change it.”

Violet took Jocelyn’s arm and led her toward the family table. Ray followed, leaving Summer without the confrontation she had prepared. Applause began somewhere among the foundation staff and spread through the room.

Summer recovered quickly. She claimed the card must have been a prank and joined a table near the stage. Jocelyn saw donors greeting her warmly and understood that legal defeat had not erased decades of social influence.

Dinner proceeded beneath watchful whispers. Ray introduced Jocelyn to educators, housing advocates, and construction supervisors rather than society figures interested only in her dress. Their gratitude for the foundation’s work gave the evening a purpose beyond status.

One school principal remembered Jocelyn from years earlier, when she had volunteered at Violet’s classroom without mentioning her employment. The woman praised the patience with which Jocelyn helped struggling readers. The story contradicted Summer’s portrayal more effectively than any prepared defense.

During the program, Violet was scheduled to present a youth-service award. Summer intercepted her backstage and asked for a private conversation. Violet refused until Jocelyn offered to remain nearby rather than forbid it.

Summer apologized for the seating card, claiming she had not arranged it. Violet asked why her mother always arrived near cruelty she supposedly did not cause. Summer had no convincing answer.

She warned that Jocelyn’s kindness was a performance designed to win loyalty. Violet replied that performances ended when no one watched, while Jocelyn had sat through fevers and nightmares without cameras. Summer’s expression tightened.

Onstage, Violet changed her prepared remarks. She spoke about service as the choice to remain beside people when recognition offered no reward. Then she named Jocelyn as the person who had taught her that lesson.

The spotlight found Jocelyn at the family table. She stood reluctantly while the audience applauded. Ray did not touch her until she reached for his hand beneath the table.

Summer watched the room accept the woman she had tried to diminish. Humiliation turned her attention toward the donor who had secured her invitation. She whispered that the evening was not over.

After dinner, the orchestra began a waltz. Ray asked Jocelyn for the dance he had promised, making no reference to rings or public declarations. She accepted because the choice remained hers.

They moved onto the floor. Ray avoided stepping on her feet, though Jocelyn suspected intense private practice. Their laughter softened the attention around them until the ballroom felt almost as intimate as her apartment.

Halfway through the song, every screen in the room went black. A financial report replaced the foundation images, displaying confidential projections of enormous Astor losses. Guests stopped dancing as numbers flashed across the walls.

Summer rose and announced that donors deserved to know their money supported a collapsing company. Ray recognized the projections as the same distorted files used to frighten lenders. Their public release violated several laws.

Jocelyn felt Ray’s hand tighten around hers. She expected him to leave for the crisis room, but he asked whether she wanted to come. The invitation treated her as a partner rather than someone to protect through exclusion.

Before they reached the doors, the screens changed again. A private photograph appeared: Jocelyn meeting the divorce attorney before dawn in Episode 30. Summer’s voice crossed the ballroom. “Perhaps the new Mrs. Astor knows the marriage is already over.”
