Reborn to Love Mr. Right – Episode 46
The completed future photograph showed flames behind the Taylor mansion’s eastern wing. Older Arianna, Hayden, and Ivy stood outside without visible injuries, but Donald was absent from the image. The date in the corner gave them less than twenty-four hours.
Security evacuated the mansion before sunrise. Donald protested from the hospital, arguing that the photograph showed a future event rather than certainty. Arianna reminded him that information only helped if they acted before proof arrived in smoke.
Fire investigators searched wiring, fireplaces, fuel lines, and ventilation shafts. They found no accelerant or timed device. The mansion’s systems had been replaced after Donald’s poisoning, leaving little access for Victor’s remaining network.
Ivy joined the review through a protected video call. She recognized the burning wing as the location of Donald’s private records vault. In the first future, Derek had emptied that vault within hours of Donald’s death.
The vault contained original Taylor ownership documents, early North Road contracts, and sealed correspondence from Hayden’s mother. Destroying it would weaken several criminal cases even if copies survived elsewhere.
Arianna ordered every file removed under police supervision. Donald’s archivist discovered one cabinet whose electronic lock no longer responded. Its inventory listed only expired insurance policies, but the cabinet weighed far more than paper could explain.
Technicians opened it and found a compact battery beneath the false bottom. The device drew power from the mansion’s security network and heated whenever records were scanned. Continuous evidence processing had been charging an ignition system.
The battery could be removed, but its tamper switch would activate immediately. Firefighters enclosed the cabinet inside a thermal blanket and transported it toward the courtyard, where a containment vehicle waited.
Halfway down the eastern corridor, the mansion lost power. Emergency doors sealed around the team, trapping the cabinet near the wooden archive staircase. A remote command had entered through an old telephone line nobody knew remained connected.
Hayden traced the analog circuit to a decorative phone in Donald’s study. Jeff had installed the line years earlier for Victor, disguising it as part of the estate’s original system. Cutting it stopped new commands but did not reset the doors.
Arianna remembered a servants’ passage behind the portrait gallery. She led firefighters through the narrow corridor while Hayden opened the archive staircase from the opposite side. Smoke began leaking from the thermal blanket before they reached the cabinet.
The ignition system activated without flame, overheating the battery until nearby wood started smoldering. Firefighters dragged it into the stone courtyard seconds before it ruptured. Burning fragments struck the eastern roof and entered through broken windows.
The blaze spread exactly as the photograph predicted. Yet the mansion stood empty, the records had been removed, and crews were already positioned. A warning that once promised catastrophe became a controlled emergency.
Arianna, Hayden, and Ivy watched from the front lawn after protection officers brought Ivy from a nearby command vehicle. For one instant their positions matched the future image. The resemblance ended when Donald appeared on a secure video screen beside them, alive and complaining about the water damage.
The eastern wing burned, but the main structure survived. Investigators recovered the analog trigger and linked its final command to the Lantern directory. Victor had designed the mansion fire as the protocol’s last act, independent of Evelyn’s attempt to erase Ivy.
Among the rescued papers, Hayden found his mother’s original North Road report. It documented Victor’s surveillance system and Evelyn’s concealment years before the fatal crash. The evidence could support charges neither future files nor confessions could establish alone.
Ivy asked whether the photograph would disappear now that they had changed its outcome. The cloud image remained, but Donald appeared in a window behind them. The future was updating instead of erasing the record.
Arianna saw the distinction as a promise. They did not need to avoid every difficult event; they needed to prevent those events from taking the people who mattered. The mansion could be rebuilt without pretending it had never burned.
Firefighters entered the cooling archive and found a sealed compartment behind the damaged cabinet. It contained a handwritten inventory dated after Arianna’s death in the first timeline. The signature belonged to Derek.
The final entry listed a transfer from Taylor Industries to an entity called Continuity Trust. Beside it, Derek had written, “If the first future fails, the company becomes mine in the second.”
