Reborn to Love Mr. Right – Episode 41
The blurred space in the restored photograph stood where Ivy should have been. Arianna compared it with the final archive video and recognized the curve of the Taylor mansion steps behind the missing figure. Future Ivy had survived long enough to send the warning, but the present timeline was beginning to erase her.
Hayden cautioned that the blur might represent concealment rather than death. The archive no longer existed to generate alternate images, leaving them with one warning and no way to ask what it meant. They had to protect Ivy using evidence from the present.
Ivy’s transfer had been scheduled for the following Monday. Federal witness officers planned to move her and her mother to another state before Derek’s preliminary hearing. Only prosecutors, her attorney, and the protection team knew the route.
Arianna called Ivy and explained the photograph without softening it. Ivy listened quietly, then asked whether her future self had looked afraid in the final video. Arianna answered that she had looked determined even after being wounded.
“Then she didn’t send this so I would hide,” Ivy said. She agreed to stricter protection but refused to withdraw her testimony. Surviving by helping Derek escape consequences would erase the person she was trying to become.
The first threat arrived that evening. A grocery delivery reached the safe residence with the correct security code and Ivy’s mother’s favorite tea. Officers found a colorless toxin inside the sealed packets before anyone drank it.
The delivery order originated from the prosecutor’s internal system. Someone with access to the witness file knew the safe-house address, family preferences, and authentication code. Victor’s network still reached into the case despite his detention.
Hayden’s investigators reviewed everyone who accessed the file. One login belonged to a clerk who died two years earlier, suggesting stolen credentials rather than a new accomplice. The activity began minutes after the Mirror Archive was destroyed.
Arianna realized the attack was a dead-man instruction. Future Ivy’s survival depended not only on stopping the visible conspirators but dismantling orders already distributed among people who might not know the larger plan.
Police relocated Ivy and her mother immediately. The new site had no digital address, and instructions were delivered on paper. Arianna resisted the urge to ask where they had gone; knowledge could become danger even without betrayal.
Derek learned about the poisoned tea during a legal conference. He claimed ignorance and offered to identify Victor’s witness network if prosecutors reduced his charges. His willingness to bargain confirmed the network frightened him too.
Victor refused every question and requested protective isolation. He understood that failed orders could expose the people carrying them out. Silence allowed him to appear more powerful than the remaining network might actually be.
Evelyn surprised investigators by volunteering information. She said Victor maintained a succession list called the Lantern Protocol, designed to preserve his operations if he was arrested or killed. Each participant received only one instruction and one target.
Her own instruction had been to separate Hayden from Arianna and recover the master key. She claimed she never saw the full list. The poison delivery meant another “lantern” had activated after the archive deletion.
Evelyn offered the encryption phrase in exchange for consideration at sentencing. Hayden opposed any promise before she explained her role in his mother’s death. Arianna understood his anger, but the blurred figure in the photograph made delay dangerous.
Prosecutors accepted the phrase without guaranteeing a sentence. It unlocked a hidden directory on Victor’s courthouse drive containing numbered instructions, but the names and targets remained encoded. One entry showed recent completion: L-17.
The grocery order carried seventeen tea packets. L-17 was the attempt against Ivy. A second entry, L-18, had activated automatically when the poison failed.
Technicians recovered three words from the new instruction: “transfer,” “bridge,” and “mother.” Ivy’s relocation convoy would cross the Harrington Bridge before dawn, and her mother would be traveling beside her.
Arianna called the protection supervisor, but the paper route had already changed after the safe-house breach. No one outside the convoy knew whether it still included the bridge. The supervisor’s phone went unanswered.
Traffic cameras finally located two unmarked federal vehicles entering Harrington Road. A fuel tanker moved across the center line ahead of them, blocking every lane as its rear lights vanished into the fog.
