Falling for My Ex’s Mafia Dad — Episode 85

Kent disliked Ivan’s condition but did not forbid the meeting. Fay selected Mara’s office, where “alone” meant no romantic audience while legal security remained outside.

Ivan arrived without the swagger he once used as armor. He said the final statement would end his career, destroy the Kozlov identity, and likely send him to prison for choices Grant never formally authorized.

He did not ask Fay to save him. He wanted to know whether anything between them had been real enough to remember when every constructed identity disappeared.

Fay answered carefully. Her curiosity, sympathy, and attraction had been real. So had his manipulation, surveillance, and willingness to use Daniel’s secret.

Both truths could survive without becoming a romance. She would not offer love as compensation for accountability.

Ivan accepted the boundary. He gave her the formal jacket once used to carry the transmitter, now stripped of every device. Fay refused to take it.

Keeping the jacket would preserve an intimacy she had chosen to end. Ivan understood and placed it in an evidence-destruction bag.

He signed the statement. It described Grant’s fabrication methods, Lorenzo’s payments, the planned prison execution, and every false claim inserted into Kent’s warrant.

Ivan also admitted genuine evidence against Kent remained valid. His testimony cleared the frame without manufacturing innocence.

Mara filed the proffer under seal. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss the fabricated homicide and solicitation counts and recalculate bail on the remaining case.

Kent read the statement at Fay’s apartment. He showed no triumph over Ivan. The younger man had sacrificed the revenge narrative that sustained him for most of his adult life.

Fay asked whether Kent could do the equivalent: surrender the Mafia identity if retaining it threatened their child. He did not answer immediately.

The empire supported families, legitimate companies, and violent operations. Walking away could create a vacuum, but retaining control preserved the system producing enemies.

Kent proposed dismantling it gradually through Daniel’s trusts and restitution agreements. Fay said gradual change could not become a promise without deadlines.

They agreed Mara would oversee a six-month divestment plan. Illegal operations would cease immediately; legitimate businesses would transfer to independent management.

The decision cost Kent more than money. Being feared had defined safety, masculinity, and purpose since before Daniel’s birth.

He signed the first dissolution orders that night. Several captains refused and aligned themselves with Lorenzo from prison.

State intelligence intercepted their plan to attack the courthouse during Lorenzo’s next hearing and free him before the organization dissolved.

Daniel identified one organizer as the captain who had taught him to shoot. Loyalty and childhood memory now stood on opposite sides.

At dawn, the captain kidnapped Colin from the university parking garage and demanded Daniel exchange Lorenzo for the man he loved.
