Hillbilly Girlie Marries a Billionaire – Episode 31

The syringe hovered near Sophie’s abdomen on the phone screen. Emily heard her scream, but the masked man did not inject her. He wanted fear, not an unconscious hostage, and the distinction told Lucas the video was a negotiation rather than an execution.

Police traced the transmission to three abandoned warehouses in the industrial district. The clinic technician had routed the signal through stolen hospital equipment, preventing an exact location. Lucas studied every visible detail—the rusted beams, a faded safety sign, and rain ticking against corrugated metal.

Noah recognized the logo behind Sophie’s chair. One building had once stored chemicals for an Anderson jewelry supplier before closing after a flood. Its underground loading tunnel connected to the river, offering the kidnappers an escape route the police maps did not show.

The commander planned two teams, one at the main entrance and one at the tunnel. Emily would record a reply agreeing to bring archive access codes. Lucas objected to showing her face, but the masked man had demanded proof she understood the terms.

Emily looked directly into the camera. She said she would come alone and exchange the codes for Sophie and the baby. Her voice remained steady, though Lucas could see the fear in the hand she kept outside the frame.

A response arrived minutes later with a meeting point inside the warehouse. The kidnappers ordered Emily to wear no tracker. Police hid a transmitter inside the metal clasp of her corn-leaf ring, designed to resemble part of Lucas’s custom work.

Lucas fastened the ring on her finger himself. He reminded her that agreement did not mean obedience once she entered. If anything changed, she was to drop immediately and let the tactical team move.

Emily asked him to trust her judgment as he had promised. He answered that trust did not make watching her walk toward danger easier. She touched his cheek and said courage was not the absence of fear; it was deciding who should not face fear alone.

At the warehouse, Emily crossed the empty floor carrying a laptop loaded with false credentials. Sophie remained tied to the chair, her face streaked with tears. The technician stood behind her while two hired men watched the doors.

The technician demanded the master password. Emily insisted on seeing Sophie released first. He laughed and explained that the genetic archive was worth millions to clients seeking false heirs, hidden children, and fabricated paternity claims. Sophie’s scheme had shown him how profitable stolen biology could become.

Sophie begged Emily not to trust him. The technician struck the chair and told her to be quiet. For the first time, Emily saw genuine terror rather than performance in Sophie’s eyes.

Emily entered a password that opened a convincing replica of the archive. The technician moved closer to verify it. She deliberately mistyped the second authentication step, buying the police more time.

One hired man noticed the ring’s clasp blinking faintly. He grabbed Emily’s hand and tore the transmitter free. The technician realized the exchange was a trap and dragged Sophie toward the loading tunnel.

Lucas heard the broken signal and ordered the teams forward. Police breached the front doors as Noah’s group entered through the river passage. Shouts and the crash of metal filled the warehouse.

Emily overturned a worktable, blocking one attacker. She reached Sophie and cut one wrist free with a piece of broken plastic. Sophie stared at her in disbelief, unable to understand why the woman she hated had returned for her.

The technician seized Emily from behind and pressed the syringe against her neck. He threatened to inject a sedative powerful enough to stop her breathing. Lucas entered and froze when he saw the needle.

Emily felt the technician’s attention shift toward Lucas. She drove her heel down on his foot and twisted away. The syringe scratched her skin but did not depress.

Lucas tackled the technician while officers restrained the remaining men. Noah freed Sophie and called the medical team. The crisis ended in seconds, leaving only sirens, rain, and everyone’s ragged breathing.

Lucas held Emily’s face between his hands, checking the scratch. She assured him she was unhurt. Across the floor, Sophie watched the tenderness between them and looked away, shame briefly replacing resentment.

As paramedics wheeled Sophie outside, she caught Emily’s wrist. “I’ll tell the police everything,” she whispered. Then her gaze moved past Emily toward an ambulance attendant—and the terror returning to her face warned that the technician had not been the only person involved.
