The Virgin’s Bucket List – Episode 80

Final exams ended beneath summer rain. Students emptied residence halls while Lindsay packed notebooks accumulated through a year of reporting. None carried the frightened secrecy of her first bucket list.

Her internship began in the same city where Wayne trained. They would live in separate student housing but finally share ordinary evenings. Proximity felt like a gift rather than a test.

During her first week, Lindsay investigated housing-code violations affecting elderly tenants. The story required patience, public records, and listening—not personal trauma. She loved the work.

Wayne’s summer conditioning intensified. He earned praise without becoming dependent on it. When his shoulder ached, he reported symptoms rather than hiding them to protect his position.

They met for dinner twice a week. Sometimes one arrived late or canceled. Disappointment remained manageable because neither interpreted scheduling failure as emotional abandonment.

One evening, Wayne cooked the meal from their shared list. The pasta was edible, though barely. Lindsay crossed out the goal and added, “Learn a second meal before celebrating.”

They discussed renting an apartment the following year. Both reviewed budgets, commuting time, privacy, and the risk of letting convenience decide readiness. The practical conversation felt romantic in its own way.

Lindsay’s editor offered her a permanent part-time role during school. Accepting would reduce visits to Maple Hill. Mike encouraged her to take it, proving he no longer expected family love to look like physical availability.

Julie’s company released its first privacy-certified product line. She invited independent critics to test it before launch. Success arrived through accountability rather than secrecy.

Jamie received admission to a counseling program and planned to work with adopted teenagers. Evelyn celebrated without claiming credit. Daniel sent a short congratulatory card through the counselor.

Alyssa joined Maya’s digital-blackmail peer group as a trained volunteer. She worked behind the scenes and never contacted victims she had harmed without permission.

Lauren’s sentencing required restitution and participation in a restorative program if victims consented. Emma declined involvement. Maya agreed only after establishing strict boundaries.

Lindsay watched these updates without feeling responsible for directing them. Everyone’s life continued beyond her role in the story. That realization brought relief rather than irrelevance.

On the anniversary of Wayne’s arrival at the Johnson house, he recreated their first meeting with clothes on and the correct bedroom. Lindsay laughed until tears formed.

He gave her no expensive gift, only a hotel reservation for a weekend after her deadline. He explained the room could be canceled without penalty and carried no expectation.

Lindsay examined her feelings without consulting the old list. She wanted time alone with him. She also wanted the freedom to decide each step when they reached it.

She accepted the weekend and chose the hotel herself after checking privacy policies. Preparation had become an expression of agency rather than anxiety.

That night, she opened the bucket-list notebook one final time. Instead of crossing out the unfinished goal, she tore out the original deadline and left the desire intact on a clean page.
