The Quarterback’s First Love – Episode 41

Brett sent the medical records before Maddie and Cameron returned from St. Catherine’s. By the time they reached campus, an anonymous article claimed Central’s new power couple had concealed a dangerous neurological condition.

The story twisted headaches into instability and childhood medication into proof Maddie could not make rational decisions. Commenters questioned whether Cameron had exploited a vulnerable woman or whether she manipulated him through sympathy.

Maddie recognized Linda’s highlighted pages in the screenshots. Brett possessed the same stolen material, but the reporter had removed every detail that undermined the scandal.

Cameron wanted the article taken down immediately. Maddie stopped him from threatening the publication before their attorney preserved evidence. Anger could wait; proof could not.

The university suspended Maddie from cheer activities pending a wellness review. Administrators called the decision protective, but she heard the same language Linda used before kidnapping her.

“I am not a danger,” Maddie said. The dean acknowledged her recent medical clearance yet insisted public attention created liability. Reputation mattered more than facts again.

Cameron threatened to sit out the next game. Maddie refused to let him sacrifice the team in her name. “Stand beside me, not in front of my choices,” she reminded him.

Together they released the neurologist’s findings and proof that the records were unlawfully obtained. Maddie declined to disclose more private information simply to satisfy strangers.

The response divided campus. Some students apologized; others treated privacy as evidence of guilt. Maddie discovered truth did not instantly defeat a story people enjoyed believing.

Her housing-support colleagues stood by her. Former shelter residents issued a statement condemning the use of medical history to silence advocacy.

At practice, Cameron faced reporters asking whether Maddie was mentally competent to consent to their relationship. His controlled answer carried more force than rage. “She is more capable of choosing than anyone who published stolen records.”

Coach Reynolds warned that the controversy distracted from the season. Cameron replied that leadership included refusing dehumanization, even when silence benefited the scoreboard.

The reporter eventually provided the anonymous email metadata under legal pressure. It traced to a public computer near Brett’s former apartment.

Security footage showed Brett entering the building minutes before transmission. He denied sending anything and claimed Veronica had access to the same records.

Veronica was summoned to the disciplinary office. She admitted giving Linda information but insisted Brett stole the copies afterward. Their former alliance became a contest of self-preservation.

Maddie watched neither interrogation. She met the wellness panel with her doctor, attorney, and documentation. For once, she entered an institution with support she had chosen.

The panel cleared her without restriction. The dean restored her cheer position and promised a privacy-policy review, though the apology arrived only after public pressure.

Maddie chose not to return to the squad immediately. She would cheer again when it felt joyful, not because reinstatement required gratitude.

That night, Cameron found her deleting hundreds of cruel messages. He offered help, but she asked him simply to sit beside her. Presence became enough.

Then one message appeared from Brett’s number: Withdraw the complaint, or tomorrow everyone learns what Linda did to your memory—and why Cameron helped her hide it.
