The Double Life of My Billionaire Husband – Episode 54
Natalie met Cassie in the supervised visitors’ room of the treatment program. A counselor remained beyond the glass, close enough to intervene but far enough to permit privacy.
Cassie looked different without designer clothes and Lauren’s approval shaping every expression. She placed a sealed envelope on the table. Stephanie Myers’s name was written across it in George’s handwriting.
The envelope had been stored with Quinn business records seized from the mansion. Cassie found it while identifying documents for creditors and concealed it before understanding why.
Inside was an old agreement between Stephanie and George. Years earlier, she had invested a small inheritance in Quinn Holdings, expecting the profits to fund Sebastian’s education.
After her death, George transferred the interest to a Klein affiliate under pressure, helping erase Stephanie’s remaining claim. The signature made him more than a passive witness to the injustice Sebastian spent years correcting.
“Does Sebastian know?” Natalie asked.
Cassie shook her head. “Dad buried it. Mom knew enough to use it against him whenever he talked about leaving.”
The document could reopen legal claims and implicate George in fraud. Cassie could have used it to bargain for money, yet she gave it to Natalie without conditions.
“Why now?”
Cassie struggled to answer. Treatment required her to name harm without converting apology into self-pity. “Because I kept thinking everything good was stolen from me. I never asked how much my family stole first.”
She apologized for the substituted marriage, the hospital humiliation, and the hotel assault. The words did not ask Natalie to declare them sufficient.
Natalie accepted the document, not forgiveness on demand. “What you did to Sebastian could have killed him. Recovery does not erase accountability.”
“I know.” Cassie looked through the glass at the counselor. “That may be the first thing I actually know.”
She admitted Lauren still contacted her, insisting Sebastian could be manipulated and the family fortune restored. Cassie had stopped answering.
Natalie asked whether she wanted to attend the wedding. Cassie’s surprise revealed she had not expected invitation or mercy.
“No,” she said after thinking. “Your wedding should not become another place where everyone watches me. I need to finish something without turning it into a performance.”
The refusal was the most mature choice Natalie had ever heard from her. She promised to send a photograph if Cassie still wanted one afterward.
Sebastian read Stephanie’s agreement that evening. Rage tightened his voice, but he did not call George or deploy lawyers immediately. He asked Natalie what she thought should happen.
“It belongs to your mother’s history,” she said. “The decision is yours. I only ask that revenge not make it for you.”
Sebastian contacted an independent attorney to recover Stephanie’s investment for the foundation rather than his personal fortune. Yet one question remained: George had asked to attend their wedding while still hiding his role in Stephanie’s loss. Sebastian looked at the guest list and wondered whether truth required removing Natalie’s father before she faced another betrayal at the altar.
