Snatched a Billionaire to Be My Husband – Episode 47

Victor’s transfer order moved Mara into a medical transport before the hospital knew anything was wrong. The ambulance used valid plates and crossed the border checkpoint under a humanitarian-care exemption. Mercer had constructed the escape route before his arrest, leaving each automated approval waiting for the correct hour.

Cora listened to the last seconds of Mara’s call repeatedly. Beneath her whisper, a public-address system announced a delayed coastal departure. The hospital had no such announcement. Victor must have played the sound deliberately to suggest an airport or port.

Byron’s team found the source in an old Vale promotional recording for medical evacuation flights. Victor wanted them searching international terminals while he used the border road. The deception failed only because Carter recognized the wording from a security campaign.

Mexican authorities located the ambulance abandoned near a private airfield. Blood on the rear handle matched Mara, but security footage showed her walking onto a plane without assistance. Victor might have injured her, or she might have created the blood to leave a trail.

Mara sent Cora an encrypted file before the aircraft took off. It contained a photograph of Victor’s master index and a message: I went because he has the name of the woman who raised me. Do not make this another rescue I didn’t ask for.

The request forced Cora to confront her own instinct. She wanted to order every available person after the plane, yet Mara had made a choice under circumstances no one fully understood. Respecting autonomy did not require ignoring coercion. It required separating what Mara wanted from what Victor might force next.

Cora replied with a single question: Are you free to leave? Mara answered twenty minutes later with a coded no. She wanted the caretaker’s identity, but Victor had confiscated her passport and threatened to publish the hidden-child index if police approached.

The index turned hundreds of private lives into pressure points. Some names belonged to adults with children and careers entirely outside the Vale world. Cora asked investigators to treat prevention of publication as protection of victims, not preservation of a wealthy family’s reputation.

Roland offered to pay every legal and security expense. Cora accepted funding only after the independent trustee placed it beyond his direction. Generosity could help, but not if it restored the authority that secrecy had just removed from him.

International investigators tracked the plane to a clinic compound outside Ensenada. Victor offered to exchange the index for the original Vale access seal, apparently unaware that Reed had already authorized the contingency account. The metal itself now carried symbolic rather than financial value.

Cora proposed giving him the replica used at Union Station. Authorities approved a controlled exchange at the clinic while extracting the patients named in Victor’s active files. Byron objected only to Cora appearing in person; after her recent medical warning, the doctor had prohibited travel.

For once, Cora did not resent the restriction. Mara needed proof that help could arrive without Cora making herself the center of the rescue. Carter, still wearing a sling, volunteered to carry the replica until Byron reminded him that being shot did not qualify as medical clearance.

Celeste went instead. As Vale Women’s Health’s former executive, she could authenticate the seal convincingly and had authority to protect patients affected by the archive. It was the first time she used family status without trying to preserve family control.

Through a secure feed, Cora watched Celeste enter the clinic courtyard. Victor brought Mara outside but kept a hand around her arm. He demanded the seal before releasing the encrypted index. Celeste placed the replica on a table and asked to inspect the files.

Mara broke free when Victor looked down. Tactical officers entered from two sides, but Victor triggered an upload from his phone. Names, birth records, and biological connections began transferring toward an anonymous media server.

From Los Angeles, Cora recognized the server architecture. It used the same Nocturne backup system Helena once exploited. Carter accessed the retired administrative console and redirected the upload into an isolated archive before any media account received it.

Victor tried to flee through the clinic, locking fire doors behind him. Mara knew the building from childhood visits disguised as medical evaluations. She guided officers through a laundry passage and blocked Victor’s exit by releasing the loading-bay shutters.

Authorities arrested him with the master index intact. Celeste returned Mara’s passport and asked where she wanted to go. Mara chose Los Angeles—not to claim Roland, she said, but to testify against the people who had built her life from lies.

The caretaker’s name in Victor’s index was Rachel Thompson. Cora recognized it from the Lane social circle: Rachel was Mia’s mother. She had fostered Mara for six years while presenting her publicly as a distant niece.

When investigators reached Rachel’s home, they found it empty. Mia’s protected video link from Cora’s wedding had originated there, meaning Mia had known Mara long before the Vale secret emerged. On the kitchen table, Rachel left a photograph of Mia holding Cora’s stolen prenatal sample.
