Salt Kiss – Episode 57
Tristan’s bullet struck Vale’s hand, sending the detonator across the concrete. The device hit the floor without triggering an explosion.
Vale lunged for it. Isolde kicked it beneath the armored vehicle while Mark drove him against the wall.
Years of grief sharpened Mark’s violence. He struck Vale once, then again, ignoring Tristan’s warning that they needed him alive.
“He wants you to lose control,” Tristan said.
Mark’s fist stopped inches from Vale’s face. The words reached the man beneath the rage.
Federal agents entered the garage and secured Vale. Bomb technicians confirmed the detonator controlled only the garage doors; the estate had never been wired.
Vale laughed as they led him away. “You spared me for them. They have made you weak.”
Mark looked at Tristan and Isolde. “No. They gave me something stronger than revenge.”
The recovered files exposed weapons trafficking, bribery, and the full chain behind the attacks. Warrants moved through Washington before dawn.
Ricker’s undisclosed operation also appeared in the records. His decision to use Tristan as bait could no longer remain hidden.
Tristan read the evidence without satisfaction. His father would face an inquiry, though rank and influence might protect him from the full consequences.
“You did not cause this,” Isolde reminded him.
“I know.” For the first time, he meant it.
Mark signed statements concerning the earlier assassination, finally allowing the lost man’s death to become evidence rather than a private wound.
Outside the estate, reporters gathered behind police lines. Their questions turned immediately toward the engagement and the photographs of Isolde with Tristan.
Mark could have protected the arrangement with another lie. Instead, he took Tristan’s hand where the cameras could see.
Then Isolde took Tristan’s other hand. The image spread before any of them had decided what name the world would give it.
For once, none of them let public judgment force them apart.
