Salt Kiss – Episode 55
Vale’s auction occupied a country estate hidden behind the appearance of a diplomatic reception. Luxury vehicles passed through layered security while armed contractors monitored every guest.
Isolde entered first, wearing the Laurence name like armor. She presented forged authorization to purchase intelligence on behalf of a private family office.
Vale welcomed her personally. He appeared refined and courteous, nothing like the violence carried out in his name.
“Your father underestimated you,” he said.
“Many men have.”
Her tracker moved steadily across Tristan’s monitor. From the service level, he followed through cameras Mark’s contacts had compromised.
Mark arrived twelve minutes later and made no attempt at discretion. Vale’s attention shifted exactly as planned.
“You survived another lesson,” Vale told him.
“You mistook survival for defeat,” Mark replied.
While Vale focused on him, Isolde copied access credentials from the auction terminal. The files contained payments for every attack, including the assassination years earlier.
Tristan signaled her to withdraw, but the exit doors locked before she moved.
Vale smiled toward a hidden camera. “Mr. Thomas, you may join us now. Your father taught me never to underestimate a soldier who thinks he has something to save.”
The reference confirmed Vale had monitored Ricker as well. Their operation had been anticipated from the beginning.
Tristan abandoned concealment and entered the main hall. Guards surrounded him before he could reach Mark or Isolde.
“Three weaknesses in one room,” Vale said. “How generous.”
Isolde held the copied drive behind her back. Mark met Tristan’s eyes, waiting for the signal they had agreed upon.
Tristan spoke the extraction word. Instead of retreating, all three moved at once.
The lights died, alarms erupted, and Vale’s carefully controlled auction collapsed into darkness.
