Reborn to Love Mr. Right – Episode 48

Victor’s offer placed Derek at the center of crimes planned before he was old enough to understand them. Prosecutors rejected the statement unless Victor separated his own actions from Derek’s with verifiable evidence. Neither man would be allowed to purchase innocence by exaggerating the other’s guilt.

The legal battle moved into weeks of filings, giving Arianna something unfamiliar: ordinary time. Donald returned home to the undamaged wing of the mansion, Hayden resumed limited work at Scott Global, and Maple Valley High reopened the restored gym.

Emmy met Arianna at volleyball practice with a ball tucked beneath one arm. “No kidnappings, secret tunnels, or exploding podiums today,” she announced. “If anyone tries, they wait until after drills.”

The humor could not erase what happened, but it let fear occupy less space. Arianna stood again at the service line where her second life began. This time, no one ordered her to lose and no future image told her where the ball would land.

Her first serve struck the net. A few students laughed, and Arianna laughed with them before trying again. The clean hit that followed felt more satisfying than any victory she had predicted.

Ivy watched practice from the upper bleachers under discreet protection. Her transfer had been delayed until the court completed her testimony agreement. She and Arianna exchanged a nod without pretending they could become teammates.

The coach invited Ivy to join warmups because her suspension had ended. Ivy hesitated, remembering the ball that struck her face and every humiliation that followed. Then she stepped onto the court and accepted a position across the net from Arianna.

Their match remained competitive without becoming a replay of revenge. Arianna blocked Ivy’s shot and offered a hand when she slipped. Ivy accepted it, then scored on the next rally without apologizing.

Hayden arrived near the end of practice in a plain dark coat, drawing whispers from students who had followed the scandals. He stayed near the doors rather than turning Arianna’s game into his entrance.

Afterward, he told her the Scott board had restored his authority and asked him to become acting vice chair. Accepting would demand travel, public scrutiny, and cooperation with directors who once supported Evelyn.

Arianna asked what he wanted before asking what the job meant for them. Hayden admitted he wanted to rebuild the systems his mother tried to expose. Walking away would leave her work in the hands of people who considered silence stability.

“Then accept it,” Arianna said. The answer surprised him because Derek had predicted she would demand Hayden choose between love and Scott Global. She refused to measure devotion by how much ambition a person abandoned.

Hayden worried that distance would resemble the graduation image in which he watched from outside. Arianna reminded him that hiding his life and living it elsewhere were different choices. They could discuss distance without turning it into disappearance.

He accepted the position with conditions requiring independent ethics oversight and protection for internal whistleblowers. His father approved every condition publicly, acknowledging that family control without accountability had enabled Evelyn.

Taylor Industries announced a parallel review led by employees rather than Donald’s board. Arianna volunteered to attend as an observer, not as automatic heir. She wanted to understand the company before expecting anyone to trust her with it.

Donald supported the decision, though he teased that his daughter had discovered patience only after returning from the dead. Arianna glanced at Hayden, unsure whether to laugh until her father’s expression softened.

Sharing the impossible truth no longer felt like exposing a weakness. It had become part of the family’s private history, held by people who did not use it to control her.

That evening, Hayden walked Arianna home from the gym. He asked whether she regretted losing the archive’s glimpse of their wedding. She admitted that certainty had been tempting even when it frightened her.

“I don’t want a photograph to decide whether we get there,” she said. Hayden kissed her beneath the mansion’s unburned archway and answered that he preferred earning every future neither of them could see.

Inside, Donald waited with a letter recovered from the eastern-wing fire. It was addressed to Arianna in her own handwriting and stamped with a date five years after her death.
