Reborn to Love Mr. Right – Episode 31
Arianna spun around, but no one stood behind her. Donald rested beneath the hospital monitors, Hayden sat near the window, and two guards watched the sealed doorway. The live photograph showed the same room from an angle that should have been impossible without a camera hovering above her shoulder.
Hayden took the phone and compared the image with the ceiling. A polished medication cabinet reflected part of the room, yet the photograph had not come from its security lens. The file contained no device information, only a timestamp three seconds before Arianna received it.
The message changed what they believed about every warning. Derek had known the future and exploited it, but someone else had selected which moments Arianna saw. That unseen person had guided her toward North Road, Donald’s poisoning, and Hayden’s exposure while remaining beyond suspicion. Each rescue had also removed one of Victor’s rivals, giving help and manipulation the same shape.
Hospital security isolated the network and reviewed every camera. One feed had copied itself into an encrypted relay during the decontamination alarm. The relay used credentials belonging to Victor Cross, although he had been held without electronic access since his arrest.
Donald woke while investigators traced the signal. Weakness roughened his voice, but his judgment remained clear. “Victor never builds one route when he can build six,” he said. “If his name is visible, he expects us to follow it.”
A second message appeared in the cloud account before Hayden could answer. It contained no photograph, only an address and a time: the county detention center at four that afternoon. Beneath it waited a sentence that made Arianna’s anger sharpen. “Ask Victor who taught Derek to remember.”
The implication contradicted everything Derek had claimed. His collapse outside the gala had looked like the moment his future memories returned, but Victor’s network had existed long before then. Arianna wondered whether rebirth had been fate at all, or whether someone had learned to trigger what happened to them.
Hayden cautioned against accepting the message literally. The sender had saved lives, but help could still be manipulation. Arianna agreed to meet Victor only through official channels, with detectives present and every word recorded.
Ivy arrived under protection to identify the future cloud account’s security questions. She looked exhausted after testifying against Derek, yet the new message unsettled her more than the threat against her mother. The phrase “taught Derek to remember” appeared in nightmares she had never told anyone about.
In those dreams, Victor stood beside Derek’s prison bed and repeated Arianna’s name until the dying man opened his eyes. Ivy had assumed the image was guilt reshaping memories from the first future. Now she could no longer dismiss it as imagination. The nightmare had carried information her present self had never learned.
At the detention center, Victor entered the interview room wearing an orange uniform and an amused expression. He showed no surprise when Arianna placed the live hospital photograph before him. “So the archive finally chose you over Derek,” he said.
Detectives demanded an explanation. Victor described a program he called the Mirror Archive, built from stolen Taylor data, Scott research, and the cloud evidence Ivy preserved in the first future. He claimed it could detect changes between timelines but refused to explain how.
Arianna asked whether he had sent the warnings. Victor answered with a question: “Would Donald be alive if I hadn’t?” He wanted credit without providing proof, the same way Derek wanted gratitude for dangers he created.
Hayden challenged him to identify the first photograph. Victor knew about Derek’s silver ring, the ballroom reflection, and the future metadata. Those details could have come from the repair-shop drive, but he also knew the red sentence written across the original print.
“Derek woke with that photograph in his pocket,” Victor said. “He thought fate selected him. I took it, copied it, and let him believe he still possessed the only version.” The envelope at the Taylor gate had therefore been placed by Victor’s network, not Derek.
Arianna demanded to know why he warned her about crimes he helped arrange. Victor said Evelyn and Derek had become liabilities in both timelines. By steering Arianna toward their secrets, he removed rivals while making himself valuable enough to negotiate.
His confession explained the older images but not the live photograph. Victor claimed the archive generated new warnings automatically whenever a life-changing event approached. The system, he insisted, had continued operating after his arrest.
Hayden asked where the servers were kept. Victor requested immunity, protection, and ten percent of the assets recovered from Evelyn’s companies. Donald’s survival had only increased the price he believed they would pay.
Arianna stood to leave. “A warning that demands I reward the person who created the danger is another threat,” she said. Victor’s amusement faded as detectives returned him to custody.
Before the door closed, he called after her. “Check your father’s first scholarship building. The archive is beneath the place where you learned to lose for Derek.” Arianna understood the reference immediately: the old gym at Maple Valley High, where her second life had begun.
