My Alpha Boss Gave Me Triplets – Episode 70
The ancient voice spoke only inside Leopold, shaped from every Alpha who had confused possession with protection. It promised certainty at the exact moment medicine could offer none.
He could claim the children with a word. The pack wards would pour generations of power into the operating room, but the same act would bind Evie and renew the law Mara had cursed.
Leopold looked at Evie on the surgical bed. She was frightened, exhausted, and completely conscious. Trusting her meant accepting a future he could not command.
“No,” he told the voice. “They are not mine to claim.”
The thread around his heart snapped.
Every ward in the room went dark, leaving only human lights, monitors, and the trained hands of Lara’s team. For one terrible second, Leopold felt nothing through the bond—not Evie, not the babies, not even his wolf.
Then Evie squeezed his hand. The connection returned without compulsion, quieter than before and chosen from both sides.
Lara began the emergency procedure. A screen protected the sterile field while Leopold stayed near Evie’s head. He described the courtyard at the retreat because she asked for somewhere peaceful to imagine.
The first baby arrived with a furious cry. A nurse announced a girl and placed her briefly against Evie’s shoulder before beginning the required checks.
No bell rang outside. No council voice declared an heir. The room celebrated a child.
The second baby emerged moments later, a boy who protested the cold with a growl too small to be frightening. Leopold laughed through tears he made no effort to hide.
The third remained in distress. Lara’s team moved faster, and the joy in the room narrowed into concentrated silence. Evie could see only the faces above the screen.
“Tell me the truth,” she demanded.
Lara said the smallest child was tangled in the cord and needed to be delivered immediately. There was no supernatural explanation and no enemy to defeat—only a dangerous complication that skill might or might not overcome.
Leopold felt the old instinct to bargain return, but there was no curse left to answer him. He held Evie’s hand and remained helpless beside her, exactly as he had promised.
The third baby came into the world silent.
A neonatal team carried the tiny body to a warmer. Seconds stretched while they cleared the airway and supported breathing. Evie called to her child though they had not yet chosen which name belonged to which baby.
Leopold began to move toward the warmer, then stopped when Evie’s grip tightened. He stayed with her. Nurses surrounded the baby; Evie should not have to face the moment alone.
A thin cry finally cut through the room. The sound was weaker than the others, but it was unmistakably alive.
Relief lasted only an instant. Lara looked down, ordered additional medication, and called for blood. Evie was hemorrhaging while all three newborns cried beyond the surgical screen.
