Ms. CEO’s Baby Daddy Is the Merchant of Death – Episode 62

Evelyn left the hospital under public protection and entered Scarlett’s home. The hallway contained photographs of birthdays she had never seen. She stopped before each one as though grief required individual names.

Scarlett prepared a guest room rather than restoring an imagined past. Her mother was alive, but she was also a stranger shaped by twelve years of captivity. Love did not erase the need for boundaries.

Evelyn tried to reorganize Summer’s medical supplies before breakfast. Scarlett stopped her and explained the asthma plan already approved by doctors. Evelyn apologized, then attempted to choose Summer’s school clothes instead.

The conflict seemed small until Scarlett’s voice sharpened. Everyone who loved her had spent months learning not to convert protection into control. Evelyn had returned to a family that could not survive another person deciding for it.

Evelyn admitted she still saw the seven-year-old left behind after the crash. Protecting that child had kept her alive. Accepting that Scarlett no longer needed a mother in the same way felt like losing her again.

Scarlett said she did need her, but not as an authority over her marriage, company, or daughter. They would build a new relationship instead of pretending the old one had waited untouched. Evelyn agreed through tears.

Summer interrupted with an invitation to school family day. She wanted both her mother and grandmother present. The ordinary request gave them somewhere safer to begin.

Connor cooked breakfast badly enough that Evelyn offered to rescue the kitchen. Scarlett laughed for the first time since the Arctic mission. Their home began making room for one more imperfect person.

Vale attacked before the peace settled. He released selected medical records describing Evelyn’s sedation, memory loss, and trauma. His statement called her unstable and incapable of reliable testimony.

News programs debated her sanity without speaking to her. Commentators treated survival as evidence against credibility. Lighthouse reduced the coverage to another risk score.

Evelyn wanted Scarlett to issue a defense. Scarlett asked what her mother wanted to say for herself. The question restored an agency Vale had denied for years.

At a press conference, Evelyn acknowledged the damage captivity caused. Trauma did not make her ignorant of systems she designed or unable to identify the man who imprisoned her. She released independent medical evaluations with her consent.

She refused to provide private details unrelated to the case. Public testimony did not require surrendering every part of herself. Scarlett stood beside her without answering in her place.

The international panel scheduled an emergency hearing. Evelyn would testify alongside scientists rescued from the weather station. Constellation’s audit would become part of the record.

Cypher detected surveillance around the hearing venue. The observers used no digital devices and avoided Lighthouse-monitored routes. Connor recognized Black Meridian field discipline.

He had trained some of their methods during Dominion’s earliest years. Vale was using soldiers designed to remain invisible to prediction. Their absence from Lighthouse was intentional.

Connor gave the evidence to the task force instead of hunting them himself. Investigators identified safe houses and financial couriers. Each lawful arrest weakened the private army without creating another secret war.

Evelyn worried her hearing would endanger Summer’s school event. Scarlett refused to let Vale schedule their family. Security would protect both without forcing Summer to disappear.

That evening, Evelyn helped Summer build a display about three generations of women. She left gaps where the missing years belonged instead of inventing happier memories. Summer filled the spaces with paper stars.

Outside, a Black Meridian observer photographed the house and sent Vale the family-day schedule. Vale ordered his network to let Evelyn reach the hearing. He wanted the world watching when he destroyed her credibility.
