Ms. CEO’s Baby Daddy Is the Merchant of Death – Episode 53

Vale requested a private video channel at noon. International investigators mirrored the connection while Scarlett sat before the screen. Connor remained beside her, visible by her choice.

Evelyn appeared in a white medical room. She looked directly at Scarlett and used the childhood name no public record contained. Her voice broke when she saw the adult her daughter had become.

Scarlett asked about a winter night when the power failed at home. Evelyn remembered building a tent from blankets and naming every star they could not see. She even recalled the song Scarlett demanded six times.

No database could have supplied the impatience in her answer. Scarlett believed the woman was her mother. Connor watched the doorway behind Evelyn instead of offering a promise.

Vale entered the frame. He claimed Evelyn had lived because he valued her genius when her own husband did not. Gratitude, he said, should have made her cooperative.

Scarlett called captivity by its name. Vale replied that history rewarded results, not comfortable definitions. Lighthouse would prevent violence before people like Bennett or Cross could act.

His price had two parts. Scarlett would surrender Constellation’s master architecture, and Connor would withdraw his testimony about Vale’s original experiments. Vanguard’s surviving charges would collapse without both of them.

Connor asked to speak with Evelyn alone. Vale refused but permitted one minute without interrupting. Evelyn told Connor that he had once made the right choice against her advice to flee.

As she spoke, her fingers tapped against the table. Scarlett recognized the pattern used in Asterion’s first emergency drills. Three short taps meant the speaker was under coercion.

Evelyn added a sequence of numbers disguised as dates from Scarlett’s childhood. Cypher recorded them for later analysis. Vale appeared not to notice.

Scarlett requested twenty-four hours to assemble the Constellation files. Vale granted twelve and warned that Evelyn’s health depended on regular treatment. The screen showed an intravenous line entering her arm.

After the connection closed, Connor argued that the treatment could be another form of control. Scarlett knew the video was a trap. Knowing did not make her mother’s fear less real.

Connor said he would support whatever she chose. He would not decide that saving Evelyn was too dangerous or that surrender was too emotional. Their promise of shared decisions mattered most under pressure.

Scarlett chose rescue without surrender. She authorized investigators to plan the operation and gave Cypher the tapped coordinates. Connor accepted a technical advisory role because his legal restrictions remained active.

Richard offered to have those restrictions removed through emergency influence. Connor refused. If they broke the law whenever family was threatened, Dominion’s reforms meant nothing.

Summer learned only that Grandma Evelyn needed help. She asked whether they could bring her home before her next school presentation. Scarlett said they would try, avoiding another promise beyond her power.

Cypher decoded the numbers as maritime medical registrations. They matched three ships owned by the company connected to Lynn’s payments. Each followed a different route.

One route crossed waters beyond ordinary extradition agreements. Another ship existed only on paper. The third transmitted medical waste records despite never entering a port.

Vale sent a countdown to Scarlett’s phone. Beside it appeared Evelyn’s declining heart-rate display. Twelve hours had become nine without explanation.

Scarlett closed the false Constellation package Cypher had prepared. If Vale wanted her mother’s work, she would give him a trail designed to lead the law directly into his prison.
