Married at First Sight – Episode 76

Ward survived because a guard noticed the altered camera feed before the medication fully stopped her breathing. The packet contained a drug once used to control Alexander’s heart rate.

Investigators initially treated it as a suicide attempt. Alexander disagreed. Ward believed too deeply in her own importance to erase herself before defending her work.

The prison pharmacist confessed that Mercer had arranged the delivery through an attorney’s investigator. The dose was designed to produce brain damage, leaving Ward alive but unable to testify.

Mercer wanted the architect of Continuum silenced before she could describe his role in Caleb’s death.

Ward regained consciousness under heavier security. Faced with permanent impairment inflicted by her own methods, she finally agreed to a full recorded statement.

She spoke without remorse. Her cooperation came from fury that Mercer had tried to reduce her mind to damaged tissue.

The testimony identified forty-three subjects, nine illegal embryo procedures, and five children monitored without parental consent. Some had never known they were part of the program.

The trust contacted each person privately. No names were released, and participation in the prosecution remained voluntary.

Claire chose not to testify in person. Her written statement described the theft of identity and bodily boundaries without allowing Ward another opportunity to observe her reactions.

Nancy chose the witness stand. She admitted the harm she had inflicted on Summer before describing what it meant to discover that her own consent had been treated as irrelevant.

The defense tried to use her criminal history to discredit her. Nancy answered that a victim did not need to be innocent of every other act before a crime against her became real.

Summer watched from the gallery. She did not forgive Nancy, but she recognized courage without pretending it repaired the past.

Christian testified about stolen genetic material, corporate funding, and the ways Norton secrecy had sheltered Continuum. He did not protect the family name from facts.

Alexander spoke last. He named Caleb and every subject he remembered from the clinic, restoring personhood where Ward’s files used numbers.

Ward was denied bail and ordered to stand trial on expanded charges. Mercer’s cooperation offer was withdrawn after evidence linked him directly to the attempted poisoning.

Outside court, reporters asked Christian whether Lena’s baby would inherit Norton Enterprises. He replied that a fetus was not a succession plan and a victim’s pregnancy was not a shareholder event.

The board issued no contradictory statement. Months of reform had finally taught the institution that silence could sometimes be discipline rather than concealment.

Summer returned home exhausted but relieved. Spark moved beneath her hand for the first unmistakable time.

Christian felt the small motion and laughed, the sound younger than Summer had ever heard from him.

Then Lena called through the emergency line. She was bleeding, alone, and too frightened to tell security which hospital Ward’s people had not infiltrated.
