Married at First Sight – Episode 64
The threat forced Summer and Nancy into the same safe apartment under federal protection. Neither enjoyed the arrangement, which made their cooperation more honest.
Christian wanted Summer transferred to the most secure Norton property. She refused a fortress staffed by people chosen through the same family networks Continuum had infiltrated.
They settled on a modest government residence with independent security. Christian came with her, carrying one suitcase and an absurd quantity of crackers for nausea.
Nancy occupied the second bedroom. She kept apologizing for small things—using the kettle, leaving a light on, existing in the hallway—until Summer told her remorse did not require disappearing.
Investigators traced the transmitter components to a private-security supplier used by the oncology laboratory. The purchase order bore Alexander Norton’s dormant corporate credentials.
Alexander was still learning to use a modern phone and could not have placed the order. Someone had preserved his identity as an emergency key long after imprisoning him.
The credentials activated again that afternoon at the cryogenic facility. A courier arrived with an apparently valid court order demanding immediate transfer of the embryo.
The new safeguards worked. A technician called the judge directly instead of trusting the document, and the courier fled before agents reached the loading bay.
Security footage showed a young woman with no criminal record. When arrested, she insisted an online medical agency had hired her for routine transport.
Her phone contained payment messages from “A. Norton.” The account used a photograph of Alexander taken inside his rehabilitation center two days earlier.
Christian visited his father with investigators. Alexander recognized the angle of the photograph: it had been taken during a physical-therapy session by a volunteer who offered to document his progress.
The volunteer registry listed Claire Park.
Summer refused to accept the name at face value. Claire had spent years having her appearance and identity manipulated by Adrian. Framing her would be both easy and cruel.
Claire answered the call from Evelyn’s home and agreed to meet agents immediately. She had never volunteered at the center, but someone had used her former legal identity to pass the background check.
She remembered one person who still possessed copies of those documents: the surgeon who had altered her face under Adrian’s instructions.
The surgeon, Dr. Lyle Mercer, had disappeared before the first Continuum raids. His specialty was reconstructive medicine, but financial records now linked him to hormone procurement and embryo transport.
Nancy recognized his voice from the room where her eggs were taken. The realization left her shaking, yet she completed the identification on her own terms and stopped when she needed to.
Agents searched Mercer’s abandoned practice. Most equipment was gone, but a wall safe held forged identities for dozens of former patients and photographs of potential surrogate candidates.
One file was marked PRIORITY: NORTON–CALE TRANSFER.
The file contained hormone schedules, forged consent templates, and women ranked by biological relationship to MIRROR subjects. Some names belonged to strangers. Others belonged to women Summer now loved. She closed the folder long enough to breathe, then reopened it because looking away would protect no one.
Fiona’s page included bloodwork she had never authorized. A note described her as emotionally accessible through guilt and eager to repair maternal failure. Continuum did not merely steal cells; it studied regret, loneliness, and the wish for second chances, then converted those wounds into entry points.
The final page listed a scheduled implantation for the next morning—and the recipient was Fiona Reeve.
