I Have Five Kick-Ass Brothers – Episode 70

The envelope contained no secret contract or urgent warning. It held a simple invitation to a wedding celebration at the restored community kitchen.

Theo had reserved the date only after asking Eli and the program director. Nothing about the event would close the center to the people it served.

Raina agreed on three conditions: no corporate spectacle, no staged rescue, and no brother arriving by helicopter.

Henry complained that the third condition unfairly targeted creativity. Noah reminded him that it targeted his actual reservation.

Preparations filled the next week with ordinary disagreements. Mrs. Lincoln wanted flowers, Mr. Jones wanted a string quartet, and Mathew wanted enough food for everyone outside.

Raina chose tables made in the center’s workshop and a menu based on Evelyn’s recipe book. The celebration honored the future without pretending the past had never hurt.

Coco asked whether completing her scheduled service that day would be intrusive. Raina told her to work the hours already assigned and make no public gesture.

That answer seemed to relieve them both. Not every repaired relationship required a speech.

Eli placed Evelyn’s photograph near the kitchen, then stepped away before reporters could turn him into another hidden heir.

The five brothers arrived on foot. Noah carried the amended charter, Henry brought music, Joshua checked exits once, Luke surrendered his phone, and Mathew carried trays.

Theo met Raina beside the food stand where their connection had first grown. He wore no title and brought no security announcement.

They repeated their vows for family and friends, though the courthouse license had already made them married. This ceremony existed because they wanted memory, not validation.

Raina promised to choose Theo without disappearing into his name. Theo promised to love her without turning protection into permission.

Each brother welcomed Theo with a warning disguised as a blessing. Raina interrupted the fifth and reminded them she could enforce her own boundaries.

Laughter replaced the solemn silence. Even Joshua smiled when Henry produced a paper certificate naming Theo an honorary survivor of Lincoln family meetings.

Coco served soup at the far table. When Raina passed, she quietly wished her happiness and returned to work.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith attended without claiming the center of the family photograph. The Lincolns made room for them because Raina asked, not because history had become simple.

At sunset, Raina looked across the room at parents, five brothers, a cousin, a complicated sister, and the man she had married. None of them fit the labels once used to control her.

Noah announced that the final defendants were in custody and the recovered identity market had been shut down. For the first time, no hidden enemy waited behind his news.

Then Raina opened Evelyn’s recipe book to sign the center’s guest page and found a sealed letter beneath the recovered wristband stitching, addressed simply: “To the daughter who decides what the Lincoln name becomes next.”
