How to Tame a Silver Fox – Episode 45
Harper stared at her name on the transfer screen. Cross had taken every symbol of her privilege—her father’s wealth, her access, her family name—and converted it into evidence of murder.
Maria began recording the transaction history before it could be erased. “We can prove the account was created today,” she said, though neither woman knew whether proof would arrive before the accusation.
Christina contacted the bank through a number used by her father. The authorization required biometric confirmation from a foundation officer inside the rehabilitation center.
“Cross has Sebastian’s credentials,” Christina said. “But he still needs a live fingerprint.” Her father had been moved after his arrest, and only three people knew the location.
The implication was immediate. Cross had either reached Sebastian or copied his biometric data through someone inside custody.
Harper searched Caroline’s files for the account structure. Her mother had documented an emergency reversal protocol used when Sloane moved money between shell foundations.
The protocol required two original trustees. Mark was one. The second name had been removed from public records but remained visible in Caroline’s notes: Chris Collins.
Harper could not contact him after shutting down the compromised network. She needed to restore one channel without revealing his position to Cross.
She returned to the house rules document stored in their shared security folder. Chris had added a private checksum to every revision, a habit he once described as unnecessary caution.
Harper changed the final rule to a string of account numbers. If Chris accessed the document offline, the update would appear without reopening the main network.
Inside the service tunnel, Chris’s phone displayed the altered file. He recognized Harper’s message and entered his trustee authorization into the reversal portal.
Mark’s approval was still required. Chris reached the hidden chapel and found him restrained near the altar, conscious but surrounded by motion sensors connected to an explosive charge.
Cross appeared on a balcony above them. “Your favorite choice, Collins. Save Mark, or stop the transfer that condemns Harper.”
Chris looked at the timer, then at Mark. Eight years earlier, he had believed the same choice cost Evan his life.
This time he refused the premise. He transmitted the trustee code to Harper and moved toward Mark while local police approached through the rear passage she had identified.
Harper received the code and used Caroline’s reversal protocol. The fraudulent account closed seconds before the money arrived, redirecting the funds into a protected evidence trust.
In the chapel, Mark reached the biometric pad attached to his restraints and confirmed the reversal. The movement also activated the charge.
Chris cut the final strap and pulled him behind the stone altar as the device detonated. Stained glass burst outward, showering the room with colored fragments.
Police stormed the balcony, but Cross had vanished through the bell tower. His abandoned coat contained a photograph of Harper and Chris kissing.
Written across the back was a final threat: If I cannot make her a murderer, I will make the world believe she slept her way into one.
