Falling for My Ex’s Mafia Dad — Episode 66

Ivan stared at the signature on the addendum and denied writing it. The officer compared it to his cooperation agreement and declared the match sufficient. Grant’s network had prepared one final betrayal before the terminal operation collapsed.

Mara demanded the underlying statement. Agents produced a transcript claiming Ivan heard Kent order Grant’s execution during the infirmary recording. The cited audio came from the transmitter hidden in Ivan’s jacket.

Fay recognized the quoted words. Kent had said Grant could not be allowed to “walk away from this.” In the full conversation, he meant legal accountability. The transcript replaced the surrounding discussion with a description of murder.

Ivan offered immediate sworn testimony correcting the interpretation. The lead officer refused, saying recantation after contact with Kent suggested intimidation. Every attempt to expose the frame became evidence supporting it.

Kent chose surrender before agents entered the house with weapons. Mara placed herself beside him, reciting the conditions negotiated with the judge. The officers cuffed him anyway.

Fay wanted to touch him but stopped at the boundary formed by cameras and armed men. Kent asked the officer whether he could say goodbye. Permission was granted as though affection belonged to the state.

He told Fay not to trade herself for his release. Lorenzo and Grant would offer bargains designed to make sacrifice look like love. She promised only that every choice would remain hers.

Daniel embraced him next. Kent asked his son to protect Colin by building a life beyond the family, not by inheriting its wars. Daniel said he would protect both Colin and Fay without becoming Kent.

The vehicles departed through reporters gathered outside the gate. Images of the Mafia king in handcuffs spread before he reached the courthouse. Public opinion convicted him faster than any jury.

Ivan remained under guard at the estate. He looked sick with guilt even though the signature was forged. Fay told him guilt mattered only if converted into evidence and action.

They examined Grant’s jacket transmitter. The device stored a local buffer before sending audio, and technicians recovered portions Grant had deleted during editing. The complete conversation contradicted the murder allegation.

Mara rushed the recovery to court, but prosecutors argued the defense had controlled the device long enough to alter it. An independent laboratory would need days to authenticate the buffer.

Kent’s arraignment proceeded that afternoon. Charges included racketeering, obstruction, conspiracy, homicide, and solicitation to murder a federal agent. The prosecution requested detention without bail.

Mara attacked the Grant allegation but could not erase the genuine ledger entries. The judge called the case compromised yet serious. Kent would remain in federal custody pending an evidence hearing.

Fay watched from the gallery. Lorenzo sat across the aisle wearing grief appropriate to a concerned father. When their eyes met, he touched his heart as though everything had been done for her.

After court, he approached and offered protection. If Fay severed ties with Kent and supported the Alden-Kozlov port alliance, Lorenzo would use his influence to reduce the charges.

Fay asked how he could influence a prosecution he claimed not to control. Lorenzo smiled, realizing too late that she had recorded the conversation through Mara’s approved device.

He recovered by calling the offer speculation. Still, his confidence revealed a relationship with prosecutors beyond ordinary lobbying. Fay now knew where to look.

Ivan joined her on the courthouse steps. Reporters shouted whether he was a criminal, agent, or romantic rival. He answered none of them.

Then a prison transport passed behind the crowd. Kent appeared at its barred window, and Fay saw blood running from his temple before the vehicle disappeared underground.
