American Sniper: The Last Round โ€“ Episode 55

Sergei Smith broadcast his son’s death across the One’s encrypted network before Hank’s body left the estate. He removed the alias Viktor Soren and addressed Carl Oliver by name. Grief did not soften him; it gave his threat a colder purpose.

Sergei blamed Carl for killing the heir he had spent years preparing. Jane heard no acknowledgment that Hank chose to aim at her after refusing surrender. Sergei described consequence as theft whenever it reached his own family. The outrage exposed a man who valued blood ties only when they reinforced ownership.

Carl gave Ruiz a complete statement and surrendered the rifle used on the roof. Ballistics, body cameras, and witnesses supported self-defense, but legal necessity did not settle his conscience. He had kept his vow until Hank forced a choice between one violent man and Jane’s life.

Lewis sat with him outside the estate. He did not offer absolution. Instead, he asked whether Carl would make the same decision knowing its cost. Carl answered yes, because allowing Jane to die would not have made him morally cleaner. Lewis accepted the answer as responsibility rather than triumph and allowed the silence afterward to remain.

That answer marked the difference between the rooftop and the four-thousand-meter mission. Carl now understood the target, the threat, and the people at risk. Sergei had not manufactured the facts. The pain belonged to a conscious decision rather than a lie.

Jane joined them after checking Rebecca. She told Carl she would not turn his action into proof of love, because her life did not require another person to celebrate killing. She would stand beside him while he carried an honest consequence instead of hiding beneath guilt.

Sergei’s vessel approached missile range of the coastal city. Naval authorities moved to intercept, but it claimed diplomatic registration through a small allied nation. Opening fire without proof of active weapons could create an international confrontation.

The hospital targeting telemetry provided evidence, though Sergei’s allies challenged its authenticity. Ruiz needed the One’s master archive or physical control of the weapon system. Hank’s invitation broker remained their only way aboard before the vessel entered protected harbor lanes. Waiting for perfect jurisdiction would give Sergei time to erase both.

Rachel survived the rooftop wound and refused surgery until she provided the broker’s credentials. Dr. Ward stabilized her, then threatened to sedate her if she attempted to leave. Black Widow accepted treatment with visible irritation.

Jane would enter the auction as a defense investor using Matthew’s old financial identity. Elena created a verified transaction history from Meridian accounts already frozen by the court. The cover portrayed Jane as a relative trying to salvage the Valentine network after Matthew’s arrest.

Sergei knew Jane’s face, so disguise alone would fail. Rachel revealed the auction required masks and voice modulators until the final bidding round. Jane could remain anonymous long enough to reach the archive deck.

Carl insisted on boarding as security. Ruiz denied the request because Sergei would recognize his posture even behind a mask. Carl and Lewis instead joined a Coast Guard research vessel positioned within long-range support distance.

Rebecca asked Jane why she had to go when agents could take her place. Jane explained that Matthew’s account opened financial systems no agent could imitate, and she had chosen the risk with complete information. Being a mother did not erase her right to act, but it increased her duty to prepare a return. They reviewed contact plans together so reassurance rested on preparation rather than promises.

They recorded messages for Rebecca in case the operation failed, then sealed them with Ruiz. The act frightened Jane more than weapons had. Carl promised not that nothing could happen, but that every person on the team would work toward bringing her home. Jane left instructions about ordinary things as well as danger: school forms, workshop keys, and the stories Rebecca should ask Lewis to tell. Preparing for loss made returning feel more urgent, not less possible.

Matthew authorized use of his identity from the hospital. He knew cooperation would not erase his crimes. Jane accepted the access without offering reconciliation, leaving the possibility of future family decisions separate from the current mission.

Elena decrypted Hank’s recovered tablet and found an auction schedule. The final lot was named KOVAC, suggesting Sergei planned to sell the files Daniel died protecting. Buyers would bid for blackmail material capable of controlling officials across several countries. The schedule listed governments and criminal groups without distinction, reducing authority to another category of customer.

The same schedule listed a live demonstration of LAST ROUND, a targeting system modeled on Carl’s shooting data. Sergei had converted years of observing him into an autonomous weapon designed to reproduce impossible shots without a human conscience.

If activated near the city, the system could select targets through walls, vehicles, and crowds using predictive angles. Stopping one missile would not end the threat. They had to destroy the training model and every copy aboard the vessel.

Jane boarded the invitation launch wearing a black mask and Matthew’s digital signet. Elena accompanied her as technical adviser, while two undercover agents posed as security. The sea reflected the vessel’s lights like a path toward a floating city.

As the launch entered the docking bay, Sergei’s voice welcomed the buyers. He announced that one guest carried a personal connection to the weapon being sold. Security doors closed behind Jane, and every masked face turned toward her.
