Twilight Romance: Flash Marriage to Mature Tycoon – Episode 10

Jocelyn fell against Ray with a startled cry. He twisted to keep her from striking the floor, and the momentum carried them onto the sofa instead. Cushions shifted beneath them while the towel, mercifully, remained in place. When everything stopped moving, Jocelyn found herself braced over her husband, close enough to feel his breath against her cheek.

Neither spoke. Ray’s arm was still wrapped around her waist, his hand warm through the fabric of her blouse. Jocelyn’s palm rested against his bare chest, where his heartbeat struck fast and hard. The awkwardness of the fall dissolved into an awareness far more unsettling.

“Are you hurt?” Ray asked, his voice lower than before. Jocelyn shook her head, unable to trust her own. She should have moved immediately, yet the concern in his eyes held her still. Beneath the embarrassment was a gentleness that made proximity feel dangerous in an entirely different way.

Ray had spent years controlling every expression and impulse. Now the scent of Jocelyn’s hair and the softness of her body against his threatened that discipline. She was his wife, but their vows had included an unspoken promise to proceed slowly. Wanting her did not entitle him to rush what trust had barely begun.

Jocelyn tried to push herself upright. Her hand landed on a damp patch of leather and slipped, sending her down again. Their faces stopped inches apart, and Ray tightened his hold to steady her. “Don’t move,” he warned, half amused and half strained.

“I’m trying to get off you,” she whispered. The words made heat flood her cheeks. Ray’s mouth curved despite the tension, and Jocelyn gave him an indignant look that only deepened his smile. Laughter might have rescued them if her knee had not shifted between his legs.

Ray closed his eyes and drew a careful breath. “That is making this more difficult.” Jocelyn froze so completely that even her fingers stopped against his chest. She insisted she was not doing anything on purpose, and he assured her he knew.

For a moment, humor softened the desire between them. They were not reckless young lovers but two adults astonished to discover that age had not made them immune to longing. Jocelyn had buried that part of herself beneath work and motherhood. Ray had sealed his behind distrust.

His gaze lowered to her mouth, then returned to her eyes. The movement was small, but Jocelyn felt it like a question. She could close the remaining distance, or she could retreat, and Ray would accept either answer. That patience stirred her more deeply than boldness would have.

She began to lean closer. Ray’s hand shifted from her waist to the middle of her back, supportive rather than demanding. Their breath mingled, and the unfamiliar house seemed to shrink around the quiet space between them.

Then Jocelyn remembered the layers of uncertainty still surrounding their marriage. They had not discussed bedrooms, expectations, or whether affection had motivated Ray’s proposal as much as loneliness. Desire could not answer questions they had been avoiding. She turned her face at the last instant, and his lips brushed her cheek.

Ray immediately loosened his hold. “Too fast?” he asked. There was no wounded pride in his voice. Jocelyn nodded and admitted that everything in her life had changed within a single day; she needed time to let happiness feel real.

“Then we take all the time you need,” Ray said. The promise was easy to make regarding her body, harder regarding the truth of his identity. Guilt moved through him as he helped her sit up. She trusted him to respect one boundary while unknowingly standing inside a much larger deception.

Jocelyn kept her eyes politely averted while Ray secured the towel and retrieved his clothes. He joked that their first household rule should require warning before entering rooms containing naked spouses. She countered that answering his phone would achieve the same result with less paperwork.

Their laughter restored some normality, but attraction remained in every stolen glance. Ray disappeared into the bedroom and returned dressed in a T-shirt and jeans, looking more like the ordinary man he claimed to be. Jocelyn almost regretted the change, then scolded herself for noticing.

They unpacked the fallen box together. It contained framed photographs, kitchen linens, and a ceramic mug Violet had once painted for Jocelyn. Ray picked it up and recognized his daughter’s uneven purple stars. He nearly referred to a matching cup in the mansion before catching himself.

Jocelyn noticed the hesitation and asked how well he knew Violet. Ray replied that they had met through the Astor household and quickly redirected the conversation. The lie sounded thinner inside their shared home. Jocelyn accepted it, but curiosity flickered in her eyes.

Her phone rang before she could ask more. Harry was calling again, apparently trying to smooth over Stacy’s cruelty and confirm the Mother’s Day invitation. Jocelyn answered, and Ray watched the warmth leave her face as she listened to another anxious apology.

When the call ended, she told Ray about the party. She minimized Stacy’s insults, yet he heard enough to understand that Jocelyn had been driven from her son’s home on the very day they met. Protective anger rose with startling force. Whoever had humiliated his wife had unknowingly made an enemy of Ray Astor.

Jocelyn asked whether he would attend the party with her. Ray took her hand and promised she would not face the Smith family alone. She smiled, reassured by the construction worker beside her, while he silently considered the power hidden behind that disguise. The Smiths believed Jocelyn had married a poor laborer; soon, they would learn how dangerous that mistake could be.
