Found A Homeless Billionaire Husband for Christmas – Episode 12

“No. No, no.” Carl refused to accept the instruction. He pointed toward Simon again, determined to make the staff look where he wanted and reach the conclusion he expected.

“He attacked me. Throw him out.” The repetition did not change the response. Victoria watched him try to turn the same demand into something more persuasive simply by making it louder.

They had it all wrong, he insisted. His outrage grew when nobody moved to remove Simon. The certainty that his complaint would settle the encounter had begun turning into disbelief.

“Are all of you blind?” The insult widened the conflict to include the people trying to handle it. Carl seemed incapable of speaking without making someone else a target.

An employee said she had seen the whole thing. Carl was the one who had started it. Victoria finally heard someone acknowledge the provocation he had worked so hard to leave out.

He called the woman a liar with a vicious insult. His anger only made the scene more difficult to calm. Victoria listened as he treated a witness with the same contempt he had used toward her.

Security turned to her cousin. Was she with this gentleman? The question gave her an opportunity to identify herself, and she answered without any apparent doubt about the effect it would have.

“Yes. We’re VIP members.” Again, the status was offered as protection. Victoria’s cousin seemed to expect the words to do what they had already failed to do for Carl.

“Great. Escort both of them out.” The response stripped away their last attempt at distinction. They would be leaving together, whatever kind of tickets they had bought.

Carl protested and threatened to sue everyone. The threats continued as the pair were escorted away. At last, the counter was becoming a place where Victoria and Simon could finish checking in.

An employee turned back to them with a different offer. Two first-class seats had just opened up. Why did they not take them?

“First class?” Victoria looked at her in surprise. An upgrade was so far from the outcome she had expected that she needed a moment to understand the invitation.

They could not afford it, she explained, thanking the employee anyway. She was too conscious of money to accept something without asking what it would cost. The trip already held enough uncertainties.

There would be no charge. It was compensation for what had just happened. The reassurance turned something out of reach into an unexpected kindness she could actually accept.

“Really?” She looked at Simon with delighted disbelief. “Did you hear that? We’re going to fly first class.” For once, an encounter with Carl had not left her with only something to recover from.

On board, she looked around with undisguised excitement. This was her first time traveling in first class. The unfamiliar comfort offered a welcome change from everything the airport had become.

Beside Simon, she remembered the times he had stepped in for her. He had stopped Carl at the restaurant and offered a way to save the wedding. Now she was here, beginning a journey she had been dreading with something almost like pleasure.

“You know, I get the feeling you’re not just some ordinary guy.” Victoria turned to her husband with growing curiosity. She had no idea how much truth there was in the observation.
