Twilight Romance: Flash Marriage to Mature Tycoon – Episode 57

The background review reached beyond criminal records. Investigators requested employment history, financial disclosures, litigation, and explanations for every public allegation Summer had generated. Jocelyn faced the exhausting task of proving the absence of wrongdoing across stories designed to leave no clean edge.

Her first impulse was to withdraw rather than risk the center’s partnership. The board chair challenged that instinct. Stepping aside would not protect the organization if false accusations could remove any leader on demand.

Jocelyn agreed to the review on the condition that participant data remain private. The nonprofit accepted and assigned an investigator unaffiliated with Astor Group. Ray supplied requested documents through counsel without contacting the reviewer.

Questions returned Jocelyn to humiliations she preferred to leave behind: the false account, divorce consultation, altered letters, and disputed property. She answered each one with records rather than emotional appeals.

The reviewer also interviewed Stacy. Jocelyn worried that resentment might revive under pressure, but Stacy described her own misconduct openly. She admitted copying identification and confirmed Jocelyn never requested money or status from Ray.

Giving truthful testimony cost Stacy any chance of minimizing her role in future custody hearings. She did it anyway. Harry recognized the act as progress while maintaining their separation.

Stacy had begun searching for work after the Smith accounts were frozen. Employers rejected her lack of experience and the public scandal around her family. For the first time, she confronted the vulnerability she once mocked in Jocelyn.

She asked to join the center’s employment program. The request created an immediate conflict because Jocelyn directed the pilot. Accepting her could look like favoritism; rejecting her could turn personal history into institutional punishment.

Jocelyn recused herself. An independent intake counselor evaluated Stacy under the same standards as everyone else. She qualified as a caregiver returning to the workforce, despite the wealth that once concealed her dependence.

Several participants recognized Stacy and objected. The counselor explained that enrollment did not erase harm and required compliance with group rules. Stacy would receive no private privileges.

During her first session, Stacy listened to women describe being dismissed as uneducated and useless. The phrases mirrored insults she had thrown at Jocelyn. Shame made her want to leave, but she remained seated.

Jocelyn observed through reports rather than attending. Boundaries protected both of them. Helping build a system that could serve Stacy without demanding personal forgiveness showed Jocelyn how far she had come.

The international reviewer completed interviews and found no integrity concern involving Jocelyn. The report criticized only the foundation’s early donor concentration, a weakness already being corrected.

The partnership received preliminary approval. It would fund three years of training, childcare, and regional expansion. Staff celebrated cautiously until legal teams finished final terms.

Ray arrived with flowers purchased from a corner market rather than an extravagant arrangement. He said he was learning appropriate scale. Jocelyn counted twenty-four roses and questioned whether the lesson had fully succeeded.

They shared dinner in her office after everyone left. Ray asked whether the partnership would increase travel. Jocelyn admitted it might require visits to programs in other states.

He said they would adjust together. No complaint entered his voice, but she saw how carefully he managed the fear of distance. Summer’s abandonment had taught him to interpret departure as rejection.

Jocelyn promised information, not permanent proximity. She could not guarantee that work would never take her away, only that she would not disappear without conversation. Ray accepted the realistic promise.

The next morning, the nonprofit sent a revised proposal. Its board wanted Jocelyn to become the national public face of the partnership, a role far larger than the six-month pilot position.

Attached was a condition: to protect its nonpartisan reputation, Jocelyn would need to resign from any Astor family foundation role and avoid appearing in Ray’s corporate events. Her career and marriage were being separated by contract before either had decided what that separation meant.
