Reborn to Love Mr. Right – Episode 58

Donald’s heart remained stable, but he did not respond to voices or pain. Brain scans showed activity resembling deep sleep rather than injury. Doctors found no medical reason for the sudden coma.

Arianna sat beside him while the final core’s warning repeated in her mind. Condition Three required facing loss without choosing death as escape. The timing made Donald’s collapse feel like a test, which angered her more than it frightened her.

Hayden reminded her that the research described conditions, not a conscious judge. No force had to cause Donald’s coma for the moment to matter. Treating illness as punishment would only give the archive authority it did not possess.

Doctors discovered unusual neural activity synchronized with the continuity server’s archived frequencies. Donald had worn a medical monitor connected to Taylor’s emergency network during his recovery. Iteration Four may have transmitted a dormant pattern before deletion.

The pattern carried memory fragments rather than poison. Donald’s brain appeared trapped processing records from timelines in which he died. He was experiencing repeated versions of his own death without knowing which life was present.

Arianna wanted the sealed future packet opened for a cure. Doing so would violate the decision they made together, but Donald had not agreed to suffer inside someone else’s memories.

Hayden’s father argued that consent changed when new harm emerged. Ivy warned that the packet might contain another manipulated choice. They returned to court and requested limited access under medical supervision.

The judge permitted extraction of information related only to Donald’s neural pattern. Independent technicians opened the core without displaying unrelated future events. A file labeled Anchor Protocol appeared.

Arianna’s mother had designed the protocol to separate present identity from timeline echoes. It required familiar sensory cues, verified memories unique to the current life, and the subject’s voluntary recognition of now.

Arianna brought Donald the cracked coffee cup saved from his poisoning investigation, the volleyball scholarship program he approved, and the signed order rejecting Continuity Trust. Each object represented a choice he survived to make.

She spoke about their argument in the first life without pretending it happened to him. Then she described the present: his embrace after she returned home, his trust at the board meeting, and his complaints about water damage after the mansion fire.

Hayden added his apology for distrusting Donald’s concerns years earlier. Emmy sent a recording thanking him for the scholarship. Present memories gathered around the hospital bed as evidence of a life no failed timeline contained.

Donald’s brain activity slowed. He opened his eyes briefly and called Arianna by her mother’s name, then corrected himself. The correction mattered because it showed he could distinguish memory from the person before him.

The Anchor Protocol instructed Arianna to ask whether he wanted to retain the timeline echoes. Donald whispered no. Doctors initiated a neural interruption that allowed the foreign pattern to dissipate.

Arianna held his hand as monitors fluctuated. She could not promise he would wake fully or demand another reset if he did not. She allowed fear to exist without turning it into surrender.

Hours passed before Donald opened his eyes again. He recognized Arianna, Hayden, and the hospital room. His first clear sentence complained that everyone looked terrible.

Relief broke through the room. Arianna cried without shame, not because fate had spared her from a required loss, but because medicine, evidence, and connection had brought her father back.

The final core marked Condition Three as acknowledged rather than complete. The cycle did not end through one successful rescue. It ended through repeated choices to remain present when outcomes stayed uncertain.

Technicians confirmed Iteration Four had planted no other neural patterns. Donald’s monitor was the only device exposed before the model’s deletion. The immediate medical threat had passed.

Then the hospital received an emergency transfer from federal custody. Derek arrived unconscious with the same neural signature, but his monitor displayed memories belonging to Arianna.
