Lucien chose a ruined estate for the exchange. Daisy and Nolan arrived with no visible guards, exactly as he demanded.
The pendant hung from Lucien’s fingers. Seeing Vera’s last protection treated as currency tested Daisy’s new control.
“Support my claim,” Lucien said, “and this returns to you.”
Daisy asked why the vampire court would follow a servant who betrayed his lord.
Lucien corrected her. He had served because waiting was more effective than rebellion. Klaudius’s failed ritual proved the time had come.
Nolan accused him of arranging the attack that stabbed him. Lucien did not deny it.
Every crisis had tested Daisy’s abilities and weakened Klaudius while teaching Lucien how the mate bond worked.
“You never intended to bring me to my father,” Daisy said. “You intended to learn how to use me after replacing him.”
Lucien’s smile confirmed she understood.
Daisy released a controlled wave of power. It struck the pendant rather than Lucien, pulling the silver chain from his hand.
Nolan caught it and threw it to her. The moment the pendant touched Daisy’s skin, Vera’s protection joined the balance she had already created.
Hidden vampires surrounded the estate. Lucien had prepared for refusal.
Blackwood warriors rose from concealed positions beyond the walls. Nolan had prepared for betrayal.
The battle began, but Lucien retreated through shadow before Daisy could trap him.
Scott appeared at the rear exit and seized her while Nolan fought two vampires.
He pressed a silver blade against Daisy’s side and dragged her toward a waiting vehicle.

Nolan saw her captured and broke from the fight. Lucien collapsed part of the estate between them.
Scott escaped with Daisy while Nolan’s roar followed across the grounds.
Inside the vehicle, Daisy met her former mate’s desperate eyes. Scott had finally obtained the power to take her, yet he still mistook possession for victory.
