American Sniper: The Last Round โ Episode 53
Rachel Fisher’s vehicle appeared on traffic cameras racing north with two black SUVs behind it. She had removed Lewis and Rebecca from the training center without warning, preventing Hank’s ambush but creating another chase through crowded streets. Carl Oliver could not tell whether Black Widow was rescuing them or taking control of the same leverage.
Elena tracked the silver spider transmitter Rachel activated beneath her car. The signal led away from the city toward an unfinished mountain highway. Ruiz ordered patrols to clear traffic without confronting the vehicles until Rebecca’s position was confirmed. Marked cruisers stayed beyond visual range, preventing Hank’s drivers from using the child as protection against a roadblock.
Jane listened to the interrupted call repeatedly. Beneath the gunfire, Lewis said two words: north tunnel. He knew Rachel’s route and had chosen the safest place for an interception away from civilians.
Carl and Jane boarded a tactical helicopter while Ruiz followed by road. At the National Team center, security footage confirmed Hank’s men had entered the evacuation garage less than a minute after Rachel left. Whatever her motives, she had prevented an immediate abduction.
The unfinished highway curved along a forested slope before entering the north tunnel. Rachel’s car reached it with one rear tire damaged. The pursuing SUVs separated, one accelerating to block the far exit while the other continued firing. Loose construction gravel made every turn unstable, and an unfinished barrier left a sheer drop beyond the shoulder.
Lewis pushed Rebecca beneath the reinforced rear seat and returned fire only at tires. His hands remained steady despite the motion. Rachel drove into the tunnel, where concrete walls amplified every shot and removed the helicopter’s view.
Carl landed near the service entrance and entered the maintenance walkway with Jane. Emergency cameras showed Rachel’s car stopped halfway through the tunnel. Hank’s men approached from both directions, leaving no driving route out.
Jane found the ventilation controls. Closing fire doors could divide the attackers, but one door would trap Lewis and Rebecca beside the western team. Carl chose a third option, shooting the overhead lighting supports to create a dark barrier without sealing anyone in.
The tunnel fell into sections of shadow. Rachel used the darkness to move Rebecca into the service passage while Lewis covered them. Carl disabled the eastern attackers’ weapons from above, and Ruiz’s team entered behind the western SUV. The planned crossfire collapsed because each defender understood a different part of the tunnel better than Hank’s pursuers.
Hank’s men surrendered after losing their escape. One carried a live video link to the harbor vessel, allowing Sergei to watch the failed capture. Carl looked directly into the camera before Ruiz covered it.
Rebecca ran into Jane’s arms. She admitted Rachel had frightened her by arriving without explanation, but Grandpa Lewis said the danger behind them was worse. Jane thanked Black Widow without pretending the decision had been acceptable. She also promised Rebecca that adults could make necessary choices and still owe explanations for the fear those choices caused.
Rachel accepted the criticism. Hank controlled the training center’s cameras, and any warning would have revealed her plan. She chose speed over consent because it saved seconds. Jane replied that necessity could explain the choice, not make it harmless.
Lewis had been grazed along his side. Dr. Ward treated him inside the ambulance and confirmed no internal damage. He told Carl that Rebecca remained calm because she trusted the adults around her to tell the truth afterward. Keeping that trust would require explaining Rachel’s choice instead of rewriting the chase as effortless rescue.
The captured attackers belonged to the One’s elite protection unit. Ruiz offered reduced charges for immediate cooperation. One man revealed Hank maintained a mountain estate two miles beyond the tunnel, where he planned to hold the family before transferring them to Sergei’s vessel. The property included a private helipad and hardened rooms designed to resist an ordinary police assault.
The estate’s systems were already active. Elena found more than twenty armed personnel and a helicopter prepared for departure. Hank had expected his team to deliver Rebecca within the hour. Fuel records showed the aircraft prepared for a direct flight to Sergei’s vessel beyond normal customs inspection.
Carl proposed using the abandoned SUV and captured video link to make Hank believe the transfer succeeded. Jane would not place Rebecca inside a decoy operation. Rachel suggested transmitting a recorded silhouette while the actual vehicle carried agents.
They created the image using the tunnel’s security footage and sent the SUV toward the estate. Carl entered through the wooded ridge with Rachel, while Jane coordinated Ruiz’s teams from a mobile command vehicle.
Hank discovered the deception when the SUV reached his gate. He executed no guard, but ordered every shooter to take defensive positions. Over the estate speakers, he challenged Carl to enter and prove whether his vow mattered more than his family.
Carl loaded his rifle with deliberate care. Lewis asked through the radio whether he intended to kill Hank. Carl answered that he intended to stop him, and he would not lie about what that might require.
A camera turned toward the ridge. Hank appeared on its screen holding a remote detonator linked to charges beneath the highway tunnel where ambulances and agents still gathered. The display beside him showed live images of the wounded being loaded for transport. โOne bullet,โ he said. โUse it on me, or watch everyone behind you disappear.โ
