Snatched a Billionaire to Be My Husband โ€“ Episode 56

The petition claimed that any child born to the protected Vale heir fell under temporary supervision of the guardian trust. Miriam had filed it months before Cora knew Roland’s identity, using archaic language from the original family agreement.

No modern court should enforce ownership over a child, yet the filing placed an administrative hold on Charlotte’s discharge. The hospital could not release her until a judge confirmed that no valid custody order existed.

Cora’s anger nearly overwhelmed her recovery. Miriam was in custody, the guardian system had been dismantled, and still its paperwork reached into Charlotte’s crib. Power survived through documents after the people who created them lost control.

Byron’s attorneys moved to dismiss the petition immediately. Cora insisted the challenge be resolved publicly enough to prevent any hidden descendant facing the same clause. A quiet exception for Charlotte would leave the underlying mechanism intact.

Miriam testified remotely. She said she filed the petition as insurance against Roland taking Cora’s baby. At the time, she believed transferring supervision to herself was protection. Hearing the reasoning aloud exposed how completely she had repeated the Vale logic.

โ€œDid you ever plan to ask me?โ€ Cora demanded. Miriam admitted she had not. She expected Cora to understand once danger appeared. Cora answered that a plan requiring someone’s future gratitude was not consent.

Roland waived every family claim over Charlotte and asked the court to invalidate the clause permanently. Adrian objected through counsel, arguing that eliminating it could alter inheritance rights. Celeste publicly withdrew the objection on behalf of the operating company.

Mara joined Cora’s challenge. As Marcus’s daughter, she was also a protected descendant whose future children could be affected. Their interests aligned without requiring them to define whether they felt like sisters yet.

The employee representatives submitted evidence showing how the clause allowed family disputes to endanger hospitals and pensions. What appeared to concern private inheritance had always carried public consequences.

The judge declared the child-control provision unenforceable and ordered every related petition destroyed or transferred to a restricted historical archive. No guardian trust could claim authority over a descendant’s marriage, pregnancy, or children.

Cora asked that the ruling use names only with consent. Mara chose to be identified publicly. Other descendants remained anonymous. Justice did not require sacrificing the privacy the case existed to restore.

The hospital lifted Charlotte’s discharge hold within an hour. Byron completed every form personally, refusing to delegate the ordinary work of bringing his daughter home.

Evelyn prepared the penthouse nursery with quiet colors and Charles’s restored fountain pen secured in a display box. Roland sent flowers only after asking whether gifts were welcome. Cora accepted the flowers and declined the diamond cradle he proposed next.

Carter installed reasonable security, then removed half the sensors Byron requested. โ€œThe baby needs a home, not a federal annex,โ€ he said. Byron objected until Cora sided with Carter.

Easton delivered meals and left before becoming a guest who needed attention. His new restraint made the help useful. He had begun working with the restitution office, far from any position his family could grant him.

Mara stood in the doorway uncertain whether she belonged in the homecoming photograph. Cora moved aside and let her choose the space beside Evelyn. Roland remained at the edge, present by invitation rather than authority.

Charlotte crossed the penthouse threshold in Byron’s arms. The city beyond the windows looked the same as it had after Cora’s reckless night with him, yet nothing inside either of them remained unchanged.

That night, after the visitors left, Cora woke to silence and panicked. She reached the bassinet to find Charlotte breathing peacefully while Byron slept on the floor beside her, one hand curled around the leg of the crib.
