Salt Kiss – Episode 26
Trust changed the scene more completely than any restraint could have. Tristan remained on his knees while Mark held his gaze, allowing silence to settle around the confession.
“You should be careful with gifts like that,” Mark said at last. His voice had roughened. “Some men will take everything you offer.”
“Will you?”
Mark touched his cheek. “Only what you can give without losing yourself.”
The promise undid something inside Tristan. He had expected dominance to erase him; instead, Mark demanded that he remain present through every choice.
Mark directed him through a sequence of simple commands, rewarding attention and correcting hesitation. Nothing was designed to humiliate. The control itself became the sensation.
When Tristan’s breathing grew uneven, Mark asked for his color.
“Green,” Tristan answered. “Don’t stop.”
Mark’s approval warmed him. The soldier who once pulled a gun rather than submit now discovered strength in choosing obedience.
The scene ended before Tristan wanted it to. Mark helped him stand, wrapped him in a blanket, and gave him water, treating recovery as seriously as the commands that preceded it.
“Why did you stop?” Tristan asked.
“Because wanting more is not the same as being ready for more.”
Frustration flashed, followed by reluctant understanding. Mark protected boundaries Tristan had not yet learned to recognize.
They sat together until Tristan’s pulse steadied. The quiet aftercare felt dangerously close to tenderness.
“What are we doing?” Tristan asked.
Mark looked toward the dark window. “Something neither of us planned.”
“That isn’t an answer.”
“It is the only honest one I have.” Mark kissed his forehead rather than his mouth. Tristan accepted the uncertainty, unaware that Mark was still withholding the one truth capable of changing everything.
