My Alpha Boss Gave Me Triplets – Episode 10

“Triplets?” Evie repeated. The word seemed too enormous for the quiet examination room. On the monitor, three small lives existed where she had expected an explanation for fatigue and nausea. She had spent the last month trying to convince herself that one night with Leopold belonged in the past, only to discover that she now carried three living reminders of it. Wonder arrived alongside fear, leaving her unable to decide whether to laugh or cry.

The doctor’s expression remained grave. “You are human, Evie, and these are werewolf fetuses. Your body is not naturally equipped for the demands they will place on it.”

Evie covered her abdomen with both hands, as if she could already shield the three tiny lives from every danger awaiting them. “What does that mean?”

“You are highly susceptible to miscarriage. You will need to be extremely careful.” The warning stripped away the first flicker of wonder and replaced it with fear. Even ordinary stress could now carry consequences Evie did not want to imagine.

There was no uncertainty about the father. It had to be Leopold, but telling him felt impossible. He had made his opinion of humans painfully clear, accusing her of turning intimacy into a transaction whenever money entered the conversation. If she appeared now with news of an Alpha’s heirs, he might see the ultimate attempt to secure his fortune. After she rejected him at the club, he had finally left her alone, and Evie did not know whether revealing the pregnancy would protect her children or place them at the center of another cruel misunderstanding.

Would an Alpha want a human to carry his pups, or would he see the pregnancy as another attempt to claim his status and wealth? Evie could already hear the accusation. She could not expose her children to the same contempt that had followed her through Stonehearth.

“Don’t worry,” she whispered after leaving the clinic. Her palm rested over the place where no one else could yet see a change. She had no savings large enough for three babies and no family she trusted to offer support without demanding control. What she did have was a permanent position, her own talent, and the stubbornness that had carried her through nine months at Stonehearth. “Mommy is going to work extra hard and make sure all three of you have a wonderful life.”

The promise carried her back to the design department, where Francesca waited beside a spread of sketches. Her demotion had not diminished her hostility. If anything, losing rank because of Evie had made it more focused.

“There you are,” Francesca said, shoving several pages toward her. “These designs are trash. I want the base color black, but make it vibrant.”

Evie frowned at the contradictory instruction, then looked more closely at the work on the table. She recognized the lines, the proportions, and the small corrections she always marked in the corner. Each page represented hours stolen from sleep and ideas developed while Francesca assigned her errands. The portfolio was more than a collection of drawings; it was the proof she belonged in the profession despite everyone who called her weak. “Wait. These are my designs.”

Francesca did not bother denying it. Evie realized the portfolio she had assembled over months now appeared under her former manager’s name. Demotion had not humbled the she-wolf; it had merely made her search for another route back to power. Worse, Francesca had already used the stolen work to advance her own career. If Evie remained silent, the theft would become official history and every future success built on it would belong to someone else.

“Did you use my portfolio for your promotion?” Evie demanded.

“So what?” Francesca replied. “You’re a disgusting human. Without my name, no one would look at your ugly little doodles.” She reached for the pages, assuming Evie would surrender as she always had.

Evie pulled them away. “Keep your dirty paws off my designs.” The knowledge that three children now depended on her had changed the calculation. She could not build their future by allowing Francesca to steal every chance she earned.

Francesca stared at her in disbelief. “You dare speak to me like that?” She had counted on the same desperation that made Evie hold the burning cup. What she failed to understand was that the pregnancy had given Evie something more important than keeping the peace.

“I may be human, but that doesn’t mean I won’t stand up for myself.” Evie held the portfolio against her chest and turned toward the door. If she reached Human Resources or Leopold, Francesca’s theft could no longer remain hidden.

Fear flashed across the she-wolf’s face. “You want to expose me, filthy human?” Her anger twisted into a decision before Evie could move beyond her reach. “Not if I deal with you first.”

Francesca shoved her with both hands. Evie stumbled backward, the edge of the top stair vanishing beneath her heel. The doctor’s warning screamed through her mind as she fell, one arm reaching uselessly for the railing while the other curled over her abdomen.

Her body struck the stairs again and again before she landed at the bottom. Pain tore through her, followed by a warmth that spread beneath her clothes. The office above went silent, and Francesca’s face appeared over the railing as the consequences of her attack became visible. Evie looked down and saw blood. The three pups she had promised to protect were suddenly in terrible danger, and she did not know whether anyone around her would choose to help.
