My Alpha Boss Gave Me Triplets – Episode 09
Leopold’s nearness awakened every memory Evie had tried to bury. The heat of their first night, the rare vulnerability in his voice, and the attraction she still felt collided with every cruel thing he had said since. Wanting him did not mean she had to surrender to him again.
When he leaned closer, Evie pressed a hand against his chest. “Stop.” Her voice shook, but her refusal did not. “I’m not the kind of girl you think I am.”
Leopold went still. The desire between them was unmistakable, yet so was the hurt in her eyes. He had approached expecting the attraction to settle what words had complicated, only to discover that wanting him did not erase the damage he had caused. Evie had heard him call her greedy often enough to believe that any attention from him came wrapped in contempt. If she yielded now, she feared he would use that against her too.
“Please,” she said. “Just leave me alone.”
Her rejection struck deeper than Leopold expected. He had believed returning the money proved she wanted his respect, perhaps even that she cared what he thought of her. Now it seemed she wanted nothing from him at all—not his wealth, his protection, or the connection he could no longer deny. For a man accustomed to being obeyed, her quiet request carried more force than an open challenge.
“So it’s true,” he said, retreating behind anger before she could see the wound. “All you ever cared about was that job. None of it had anything to do with me.”
Evie stared at him, exhausted by another accusation. She had asked to be left alone because he treated her feelings like evidence against her. Leopold heard only confirmation of the fear he refused to name.
“Fine,” he said. “If that’s what you really want.” He stepped away, every instinct urging him to challenge the refusal and every remaining piece of honor ordering him to respect it. For the first time since their paths crossed, he forced himself to leave without looking back. Evie watched him go, relieved that he had listened and wounded that leaving appeared so easy.
A month passed. Evie buried herself in work and avoided every place where she might encounter Leopold. She kept their encounters secret and tried to regard the club as a final ending rather than another unfinished argument. The distance should have brought relief, but her body began to betray her with waves of nausea, unusual fatigue, and cramps she could not explain. At first she blamed overwork; soon the symptoms became impossible to dismiss.
Elsewhere, Leopold gripped the edge of his desk as sickness rolled through him without warning. He had not eaten anything dangerous, and no ordinary illness could have pierced a werewolf’s constitution so quickly. Max hurried to his side when the Alpha doubled over.
“Alpha, are you all right?” Max asked. Then a faint light beneath Leopold’s clothing caught his attention. “The curse mark—it’s glowing.”
Leopold pulled the fabric aside and stared at the mark of his bloodline. It had never reacted before, not during years of introductions to eligible she-wolves and not even when pack elders insisted he choose a partner. The pain he had shared with Evie, the magnetic need to find her, and now the awakening curse left no room for the denial he had clung to. Their single night had done what generations of planning could not: it had bound him to a human.
“You must have bonded with your mate,” Max said. “The old words—whom thy love shall feel thy pain. Whatever she feels, you feel it too.”
The realization changed the meaning of every strange sensation Leopold had experienced. Francesca’s slap, the burns on Evie’s hands, and the fear at the club had reached him because their night together had completed the bond. The curse had been warning him while pride persuaded him to mistreat the person fate had chosen. His mate was not a powerful she-wolf from an established family. She was the human he had driven away, and he had no idea whether she would ever allow him close enough to repair the damage.
Another cramp tightened through him, followed by a wave of nausea unlike any illness he had experienced. Max’s expression shifted from concern to dawning recognition. “I know what this is.”
At a clinic across the city, Evie sat rigidly while a medical professional reviewed her results. The antiseptic room offered no clue why the examination had taken longer than expected or why the doctor kept checking the screen. Evie had expected exhaustion or stress and perhaps a warning to sleep more. The truth was so much larger that she could not make sense of it, especially after spending a month trying to remove Leopold from her future.
“You’re pregnant,” the doctor told her. Before Evie could absorb the words, the doctor continued. “And there is more than one fetus.”
Evie’s hand moved instinctively to her abdomen. There had been only one possible night and only one possible father. The answer could change everything. “How many?” she whispered.
“Not one and not two,” the doctor said. “You’re carrying three werewolf pups.” The room tilted around Evie as the full consequence of her night with Leopold became real. “Three?” she repeated, staring down at the life-changing secret already binding them together.
