Twilight Romance: Flash Marriage to Mature Tycoon – Episode 47
Ray examined the resort plans twice. Astor Group had considered a rural development in the region years earlier, but he had rejected the site before purchasing land. The signature resembled his digital authorization closely enough to alarm any resident who saw it.
Jocelyn asked whether the proposal had ever reached a board meeting. Ray confirmed that an early feasibility study existed. Summer had likely combined authentic pages with a fabricated approval, repeating the method used on the divorce memo and old letters.
The local lawyer warned that public records showed an Astor subsidiary still owned options on nearby parcels. Even without an active project, the documents could make Jocelyn’s promise of independence appear dishonest. The town would believe she transferred one house while helping Ray acquire everything around it.
Ray called headquarters and ordered the original project archive preserved. He did not cancel the land options immediately because destroying or transferring assets after discovery could look like concealment. Jocelyn appreciated the careful response, though the optics remained damaging.
By afternoon, copies of the plans appeared on local social media. Residents who had supported Jocelyn began asking whether the community trust was a decorative concession before a luxury takeover. Fear spread faster because the proposal included real maps and real company logos.
Jocelyn called an open meeting rather than issuing a distant statement. Ray offered to attend, but she asked him to join by video with Astor’s property records available. His physical presence might intimidate people who needed freedom to question him.
The town hall filled with anger. A farmer said an Astor broker had approached him months earlier about selling. Another resident had received a similar offer. The land options were not merely forgotten paperwork.
Ray’s property director appeared on the video call and admitted a regional broker continued acquisitions after the project was shelved. The director believed the options might become useful for a future plan and had never returned them to landowners.
Ray accepted responsibility for the company’s failure of oversight. He promised an independent review and offered every owner the choice to cancel at Astor’s expense. Jocelyn insisted the promise be written before the meeting ended.
Some residents remained suspicious. They asked why Ray should be trusted when he had hidden his identity even from his wife. The question was fair, and Jocelyn did not defend him with empty assurances.
She described the work required to rebuild trust and said the town should demand the same proof she demanded in marriage: clear terms, independent advice, and freedom to refuse. Ray agreed publicly.
The honesty changed the room slowly. Residents formed a committee to review every option contract. Astor Group would fund independent counsel without choosing the attorneys.
After the meeting, the property director reported that the broker had received instructions from an executive code linked to the same compromised facilities account. Tony and Summer had revived the abandoned project to make Ray appear predatory.
Yet the underlying land options remained Astor Group’s responsibility. Ray could not blame conspirators for a corporate practice his company had allowed. He ordered a companywide review of dormant acquisitions.
Jocelyn saw the decision would cost millions. Ray said accountability that existed only when inexpensive was merely branding. The answer strengthened her trust more than any promise of protection.
Stacy called with information from Wendy’s attorney. Tony had discussed the rural plans during family dinners, boasting that Summer would use them to destroy Jocelyn’s reputation. Stacy was willing to give a sworn statement.
Harry worried testimony against her parents would overwhelm Stacy’s fragile progress. Jocelyn said supporting Stacy did not mean shielding her from a decision she wanted to make. Agency belonged to people repairing harm as much as to those harmed.
Stacy testified remotely and identified Tony’s language in several messages. Her cooperation strengthened fraud charges and weakened Summer’s claim that the plans came from Ray. It also ended any remaining financial support from the Smith family.
Harry offered practical help while maintaining their separation. Stacy thanked him without treating kindness as reconciliation. For the first time, their conversation centered on Caleb rather than control.
That night, Summer called Jocelyn from an unregistered number. “You keep cleaning up Ray’s empire,” she said. “How long before you realize loving him has turned you into another unpaid servant?”
