Hillbilly Girlie Marries a Billionaire – Episode 19

Victoria placed the annulment papers on Lucas’s hospital table as though presenting necessary medicine. She said the attack proved Emily brought danger, scandal, and deception wherever she went. Sophie stood beside her in pale silk, performing concern while satisfaction flickered in her eyes.

Lucas did not touch the documents. He asked why his mother had arrived with a lawyer before visiting hours began. Victoria claimed she had been preparing to protect him since learning the marriage began with surrogacy. The doctor she brought confirmed that no fertility arrangement existed between Lucas and Emily, presenting that absence as evidence even though it supported Emily’s account.

Emily almost laughed at the absurd accusation. She had misunderstood the job at their first meeting, but Lucas corrected her before the wedding. No child had ever been promised. Their later remarks about starting a family had been made to protect the marriage from suspicion, not to create a medical contract. Victoria transformed that confusion into fraud because the truth itself offered no legal weapon.

Sophie produced copies of Emily’s application and argued that she entered the marriage expecting payment for pregnancy. Emily admitted the application was hers. She refused, however, to let desperation be recast as manipulation. Lucas had known the circumstances and chosen a different contract with open eyes.

The lawyer said the Anderson family could still claim misrepresentation. Lucas ordered him out. Victoria reminded her son that a concussion might impair judgment and suggested temporary control of the company should pass to Noah until he recovered.

The real purpose emerged at last. Emily saw it in Lucas’s expression too: his mother was using the marriage crisis to rearrange corporate power. Noah stepped forward, but instead of accepting, he told the lawyer he wanted no position obtained by declaring his brother incompetent.

Victoria stared at her younger son as if he had betrayed his nature. Noah said he had heard her discuss removing Emily before the restaurant attack and possessed a recording connecting Mia to her plan. He would give it to the police unless she withdrew every threat.

Sophie accused him of choosing a stranger over family. Noah replied that family did not hire people to swing bottles at one another. His voice shook, yet he did not retreat. For the first time, Lucas looked at his brother without rivalry clouding everything between them.

Victoria denied ordering violence. She claimed Mia exceeded instructions meant only to expose Emily. The distinction horrified Emily. Humiliation, blackmail, and fear were acceptable to Lucas’s mother as long as blood remained unintended.

Lucas signed the final page of the annulment packet. Emily’s stomach dropped—until he wrote VOID across the signature block and tore the papers in half. He told Victoria the only agreement he intended to cancel was the temporary contract, because he wanted Emily as his wife without an expiration date.

Silence filled the room. Emily had heard part of that truth before, but now he declared it in front of the people most determined to punish him for it. Lucas reached for her hand. “If she’ll still have me,” he added.

Emotion tightened Emily’s throat. She wanted to answer, but choosing a real marriage while his mother and Sophie watched felt like allowing their cruelty to dictate the moment. She told Lucas he would receive her answer when they were alone and when he was not medicated for a head injury.

His mouth curved despite the bandage. Victoria interpreted Emily’s caution as rejection and warned that Lucas would regret sacrificing his future. Grandfather Anderson arrived behind her, having been summoned by Adam, and said a future requiring his grandson to abandon decency was not worth protecting.

He ordered Victoria to leave the estate until the police completed their investigation. Sophie was banned from all family properties and business functions. She protested that she loved Lucas, but he answered that love without respect was merely possession.

Security escorted both women away. Sophie looked back at Emily with hatred undiminished by defeat. Victoria maintained her dignity until the elevator doors closed, then struck Sophie across the face for allowing the plan to become violent and traceable.

Inside the room, Noah apologized to Lucas. Their reconciliation was not immediate or sentimental. Lucas said one honest choice did not erase years of sabotage. Noah agreed, promising to make another honest choice tomorrow and the day after until trust became possible.

Emily recognized the same challenge in her marriage. Feelings could begin in crisis, but a life required repeated choices. She sat beside Lucas and placed the green-stone ring he had offered on her finger.

Lucas noticed and went still. Emily said it was not yet an answer to forever; it was an answer to tomorrow. She would stay, learn who he was beyond rescue and danger, and let him learn her without the contract between them.

He kissed her hand above the ring. Noah groaned that head injuries had made his brother sentimental and retreated to find coffee. For the first time since the wedding, laughter entered the room without fear following it.

Outside the hospital, Sophie opened a copy of the marriage contract Victoria believed destroyed. One clause confirmed the union would end if Emily failed to fulfill public family duties. Sophie called a reporter and promised proof that the celebrated Anderson marriage had been purchased—and that the bride had entered it intending to sell a baby.
